[FR & OA] Need Help With Added Classes

Chauzu

First Post
Howdy y'all.

Anyways, I'm primarely a Faerun player. To add some more options to my players, I want to add some more classes to the my list. So... I want to add the Samurai, Shugenja, and Sohei. So far I have the Shugenja, which I am renaming the Elementalist. But I am having a hard time thinking of a good western-like name for the samurai and sohei.

The samurai will be pretty much the same: as a warrior of nobility and honor. The sohei I want to be some sort of a "monk of the wilderness."

So far my list of available classes are:

Barbarian
Bard (Homebrew)
Cleric
Courtier
Druid (Homebrew)
Fighter
Gambit (Homebrew)
Monk
Paladin
Psion
Psychic Warrior
Ranger (Homebrew)
Rogue
Shaman
Sorcerer
Witch (Homebrew)
Wizard

Adding these three should complete my list!

"The samurai: warrior of nobility and honor", how about "Knight"?

don't traditional knights usually come from the nobility?

Although, this isn't what you asked for, the samuri and shugenja for OA were redesigned in the Rokugan CS book and are much better balanced and designed classes with out changing their fundamental abilities or concept. Just thought you might want to know

Yup, have Rokugan. I'm not really changing their abilities. I'm just changing their names for a Faerun feeling.

Perhaps "Noble" in place of Samurai

I was thinking of that, but seems too bland.

I was thinking of this, but I guess I can delete some of the bonus feats so that the Knight can have a mount... that gives me an idea! I could name the class "Black Knight". While a Paladin is a good knight, the Black Knight is an evil knight.

Still need a name for the Sohei!

you could always call the samurai "Retainer" or "Bonded Warrior" reflecting their status as servants to their master... honoured servants, but still servants...

Given Sohei combine a religious element to their general theme, I would look at calling them something like "Disciples"

does that help in any way...?

Why does it need to be a special ability? Why can't a knight just buy a mount? Or since you're playing in the Realms, you could make a free warhorse an option instead of the regional bonus equipment.

My DM actually added these very classes in his Iron Kingdoms campaign. I'm playing the variant of the samurai, which we call the ' Swordsmaster ' class. It lacks a lot of the honor system from the samurai, but retains the devotion to the ancestral swords.

Offhand I can't remember what name he gave to the other classes. If I find them, I'll either edit this post or post again. I do know he also added a variant class called the Arcanist - mage-types who work with mechanica. They have bard-like spell progression and abilities to work with the ancient machinery.
