FR - So what do YOU think happened to Tilverton?

First Post
My campaign is set in Cormyr and I had my characters stumble across Tilverton immediately after it vanished from the face of Faerun. I've been trying to decide what could have made it vanish and be replaced with a bowl of haze with darker shadows moving within it...

It says in the FRCS that when someone enters it they eventually just fade away and are never seen again... and that a group of wizards are investigating it...

I'm looking for ideas on how to hook this more firmly into my campaign, but mainly just wanted others' impressions on what might have actually happened there.

Thoughts?

My sense is it has something to do with the reemergence of the shadow people in the ancient Netherese flying city over that desert. They obviously have plots within plots, and Tilverton could have been a "test."

That's how I was going to play it in my FR game, anyway.

i agree with ForceUser

it could be that Tilverton was sent to the demi-plane of Shadow, or maybe the Shades have constructed some mega-shadow mythal over the city to capture it (and study the inhabitants/enslave them/abduct them/find out what's new since they've been gone/etc.)

You are partly correct, it did involve the Shades. The answer to this question is found in Book 2 of the Return of the Archwizards series, "The Siege."

In short, Cormyr, who had ostensibly allied themselves with the Shades and Waterdeep to combat the emmergant Phaerim crisis, discover that the Shades have been melting the High Ice to help bring water to Anauroch, which has been majorly screwing with Cormyr's natural weather patterns. When confronted, the Shades refused to stop, and a battle errupted. Tilverton was a casualty of mighty, ancient Netherese magics that seemed to disintegrate the city (IIRC).
