So, if the conjecture is accurate, Faerunians are going to be in a world of hurt for at least the next decade.

As DM, do you have a plan to get your adventurers through the Spellplague and its aftermath?

I'm not yet sure if I want to play it through, or offer the PCs a chance to enter stasis for ten years and emerge into a changed world.

A member of Candlekeep ran into Chris Perkins at the Digitial Life convention and asked a few questions. One of the questions was how much a timeline jump.

Chris said that they have decided on how far forward the timeline will move, but he wasn't at liberty to say.

When asked 'Can hints be gleaned from The Orc King?', his response was "Yes."

Based on that, it is widely felt the timeline jump for the new FRCG will be 100 years.

Based on hints from the Orc King, the Spellplague was a catastrophe that lasted a number of years and the chaos of that event persists 100 years later.

So the Realms will be in a world of hurt for 100 years.

So, your choices are probably play 'into' the Spellplague and call it a campaign at some point. Or your can pick up 100 years later with new characters and a new campaign. It is extremely unlikely you will be able to play 'through' the Spellplague given its assumed duration.

All this, of course, is supposition based on reading between the lines on comments from Chris Perkins, the Grand History of the Realms and the book, The Orc King.

As for myself, I am waiting for more info before deciding what direction to take my campaign.

If Orc King is a direct statement of timeline advancement (90 years - Spellplague starts in 1385 and Orc King's "present" is 1475), does anyone think that Elminster will now be an Immortal Humanoid (to explain how he is able to remain alive after the death of Mystra)?

I'd rather he gained the "Dead" template.

He's not dying, they've already stated, so your wish won't be granted. :(

I think they're turning him into what his traditional title states... the Old Sage. Wounded by the war with the Zhents, he is a tired and slightly senile old man now, and he no longer has the backing of a goddess. He'll probably be that old man the PCs go to see to find out information about the "old world" (since he's one of the few that lived through many of the RSEs), but can never interfere because he has become far too weak.

That's actually better than dead.

I'd accept that in a heartbeat.

Elminster must really have messed up your game! He never interfered in nine!

I think it's more of his Mary Sue status than his direct involvement in anyone's campaigns. I remember I had a non-RPG friend who loved FR books, but hated Elminster, who he called a crappy Gandalf knockoff (since, that's what he kinda was before 3e started changing his visual appearance and Ed's Elminster books started adding more depth to him).
