[FR] Who are the other Chosen

Cyric has his Seraph of Lies, which to me seems to be a chosen. I do believe his name is Malik.

I really like Malik in the Return of the Archwizards trilogy, the curse he bares is wonderfully horrible. I like how it turns one of the most untrustworthy individuals ever into one of Telemont's most trusted advisors.

Do people running FR use this 'Chosen of' stuff in their games? Is it something that PCs can aspire to, or is it just the 3e version of 'these NPCs are far cooler than you, so they can break the rules'?

Not me; I axed all the Chosen of Mystra - including the template itself. Instead, I effectively use the Magister (or at least her template) as the Chosen (singular, that is ) of Mystra. It's a different person than the current Magister, though (and I also don't have a separate Magister in addition to the Chosen).

The problem with allowing PC's to become Chosen is the issue of maintaining enough balance in the party that the game remains fun for all (I understand that not everything is going to be perfectly balanced but in order for everyone to have fun it can't be completely thrown out the window). The problem is keeping balance in a way that makes sense with the campaign world. I personally think that templates like the Chosen and the lich would have been better off handled as PrC's.
