hmmmm... I'm not really sure. He says that sometimes the grids don't match up perfectly? Like the map he drops in and the grid in maptools don't always mesh?

I play with maptools, but I've never tried to create and use a map as a DM, so I don't quite know what he's referring to.

Silly question but has he tried adjusting the grid?
I normaly use grid size 50
offset x = 0
offset y = 0

I use MapTool with these maps. The "trick" to using maps properly is to set the layer for the map to "background" - then set the sizing mode to "freesize" then just drag the edges of the map until the cells line up correctly.

I made sure with the renders that you won't get some grid squares of one size and some of another (like some WotC maps do) so that you can size them without issue.

I would assume so. He says sometimes "the pixels don't line up", or something like that. I don't know! All I know is that he prefers gridless maps. I'm 100% not a computer graphics person...

WotC maps in adventure hand outs are the big culprit here because the versions that many people get aren't direct from computer source but rather, have been scanned in and scanned images usually vary in small amounts with perfection - for which the grids require perfection.

I am right now rendering the gridless one for you, but I can assure you that my map lines up. If you're still skeptical I'll post a screen-cap of the map in MapTool.

I was able to get your map with the grid to line up in Maptool.
I just turned off snap to grid on the map. Adjusted the grid and all was good.
Make sure to write down the grid size once you have it set. Then go into Preferences and change the new map size to what you wrote down. Then your tolkens should snap to grid correctly.

Does anyone have any tips about resizing these sorts of maps to work with a certain grid size in MapTool? I know that the Fantasy Grounds 2 map packages that have been created for War of the Burning Sky are sized so that when I drag them to MapTool, their grids already line up perfectly with a 50-square grid in MapTool. I'd love to resize my own JPGs so that I could have that same experience when I drag them to MapTool (no resizing needed), but I'm not sure how to achieve it aside from a lot of painful trial and error.

Has anyone tried this before, and if so, do you have any advice?

Open the map and measure in pixels the distance between beginning of a register (a line) and the next register beside it. Let's say you get 80.

Divide your measurement in to your target size (50).

Thus:

50 / 80 = .625

Scale the map by that amount. (.625 or 62.5%)
