Free Idea for WotC: Star Wars Minis Game

Wizards has tried twice now to make the foray into miniatures games. First, they tried to take some of Games Workshop's thunder with Chainmail. Now, they're trying to get a piece of Wiz Kid's pie with the D&D Mintiatures game. I was thinking in the shower today, as I often do, and I came up with a pretty good idea.

Wizards owns the rights to make Star Wars RPG stuff, right? I don't know that logistics of it, but I'm pretty sure they could extend that to a license to a mini game.

Wouldn't a Star Wars miniatures game be cool? It could scale from small scale duels with jedi to full-out space fleet battles. They could make it collectable, or make it more traditional, whatever they want. Call me crazy, but I think this would sell.

What do you think?

But anyway, yeah, a Star Wars miniature battle game WOULD be cool. If WoTC really wants a shot at dethroning GW, then Star Wars is their best shot. After all, what would the new miniature war gamer prefer to play? A Space Marine army, or a Storm Trooper army? Chances are, Storm Troopers, since the new gamer knows all about Storm Troopers, but knows jack squat about Space Marines.

But as that link points out, it's all dependent on the success of the new D&D Miniatures line. If it's a success, then Star Wars is sure to follow (My guess is 2005, right around the time of the next Star Wars movie). If it tanks, then forgot about a Star Wars miniature game.

Well, hopefully it'll succeed. If for no other reason, than so I'll be able to put Darth Vader on the game table and kill that whiny putz Luke over and over again. :D

West End Games did it when they had the license. The game was not bad and the miniatures were pretty good (20 mm unfortunately). It was a steady seller but did not do amazing numbers as I understand it.
