Free League is resurrecting the classic Path of Glory campaign for Dragonbane. Today, Free League announced that it would publish a new "reimagined and updated" version of Path of Glory for its Dragonbane RPG, with a planned release date of November 12, 2024. This marks Dragonbane's first campaign book since Free League re-launched the RPG for an English audience.

The original Path of Glory was published in 1985 and 1986 for Drakar och Demoner, the original Swedish version of Dragonbane. The adventure is split into three installments - The Dead Forest, Gates of Power, and Heart of Darkness. Free League worked with original author Roger Undhagen to update the rules for the campaign for this new edition.

Also included in the modern edition of Path of Glory is a large double-sided map by Francesca Baerald, new illustrations by David Brasgalla and new cover art by Johan Egerkrans. Digital versions are currently available for pre-order at the Free League webshop.

Maybe a bit early, but a couple of questions for those lucky enough to have this.

1. The campaign included in the box set is for the most part fantastic, how does this stack up? I've heard a couple of criticisms that it reuses ideas from that campaign in parts and it can also be a little rail roady.

2. Following on from this, could a group that's completed the box set campaign carry on into this or would it be too easy?

For question 2. Path is a continuation of the boxed campaign and suggests the minimum requirements a PC needs to participate or they might find the campaign quite a bit tougher. That also answers Question 1 in part because as a continuation, it inherently has to use some elements from the previous campaign.

On that note, it's a little hard to understand exactly what the criticism is focusing on.

The campaign is broken into three main sections, an even more OSR style sandbox, a good sized dungeon as far as D&D goes, perhaps even bigger in the light of Dragonbane not needing an XP grind, and then a location-based arc.

The story behind the campaign is that it is famous in Sweden and the two first halves are written by a beloved game writer. The third was written by someone else and had some criticism. This time around the beloved writer did all three.

What´s the campaign about?
"Coming to the legendary Dead Forest in search of treasure, glory and a solution to the ancient curse laying waste to the forest, the adventurers soon find themselves embroiled in an epic conflict reaching back to the very foundations of the world. The quest will take the adventurers through the depths of the forest, under the mountain, and into a strange new land where the fate of the world will be determined."
