Free Metamagic enhancements

Could you check when given a chance (I dont have books handy either), but I "think" that the only ones I have seen are ones that gain the special ability to do this through class abilities from Prestige Classes.

Well damn. I can't find it. Perhaps it didn't exist. However: I do have this link:

http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/ei/ei20030105a

With Andy Collins saying this:
A few metamagic feats -- Empower Spell, Enlarge Spell, and Extend Spell -- can be applied to a single spell multiple times, stacking its increased effect again and again.

But I do think the rules are a bit unclear and that an excellent House Rule would be to eliminate stacking. :)

Yes you can stack the same metamagic feat. So 5x empowered are legal. Heck, even 5x maximised is legal if you want to blow your spell levels:)

One thing about it, why don't make it the spellcasters primary stat? That way sorc get there charimsa, clerics there wis etc. Or you could make it based on caster level. Something like for every 2 caster levels, you get one more free level of metamagic-something like that.

You forgot to mention that the article in question deals with Epic Insights.

I still prefer to keep the house rule that a metamagic feat can't stack with itself. This allows for the difference between arcane or divine spellcasters vs psions.

That is a good suggestion, though I am limiting it to wizards and sorcerers only. I should allow the wiz to use In and sorcerer to CHa. other than that, the system remains. no extra bonuses. when they gain more ability scores and augment their IN or CHA, it'll increase itself.
