Free PDF to All Purchasers of Level Up

No one in the RPG industry does it. The closest to it is Paizo, but you have to be a subscriber of the print product to get the free PDF.

Well, we're doing it with the WotBS print stuff, but that's POD - but that's exactly what we do: a discount code which gives you the PDF version for free at RPGNow. But if we'e only talking about stuff in bookstores, then yeah I guess so.

How do you plan to counteract what Wizards was worried about: piracy. Are the magazines shrink-wrapped, or is the code otherwise protected? Or are you counting on no one except buyers being interested in the magazine?

Sorry to be cynical, but is somebody is going to pirate a copy, it probably just easier for them to find a bit torrent than to actually got the store and write down the number.

That's not true in many cases of lower-profile products. If this becomes a popular product in the realm of piracy, then you're right. But otherwise a FLGS might be the best place to steal a digital copy. Also consider that someone might not be Internet savvy, but still capable of catching on to the concept of getting a free digital copy by writing down the code.

It might not seem like a big deal for a few extra digital copies to be floating around the Internet, but it can be a big deal for the paying customer who has to jump through hoops to get his or her digital copy.

That's not to say Goodman Games doesn't have plans to counteract piracy . . . I'm just wondering.
