Free RPG Day at Green Ronin

For those inspired by the True20 rulebook to buy the hardcopy rulebook...

My suggestion: get some of the other True20 stuff before a hardbound copy of the rules, unless you're really inspired to create a lot of stuff on your own. True20 is a super toolkit, but having some existing stuff in your back pocket is very helpful.

The True20 Bestiary is very very very useful if you're looking at D&D conversions or running D&D-ish games. It's basically the OGL Monster Manual, translated into True20. It also has additional conversion guidelines for various spells & feats from 3.5.

The True20 Companion is full of awesome and pwn. If you're tired of the 3 base paths (classes) in the rulebook & you're interested in additional layers of customization, that's one great thing about the Companion. Then the sub-sections on various genres... they are awesome.

For D&D-style True20, you might also find the True20 Fantasy Paths PDF to be useful in looking at how to construct D&D-style character classes with True20.

Yep, True20 is an excellent rules set and I have yet to see an expansion that I'm not totally excited to own. I highly recommend it and I think it was an awesome gesture to make it available for free.

Heya Whisper! 4 more posts to 3rd level! :D

OT though ... this will be my first "looksee" into True20 (AND M&M2) ... and I am grateful for the offer on GR's part!

If (when) I get the True20 corebook, it'll be for two reasons:

1) I like having paper copies of books for easier reference during games.
2) I want to support the folks at Green Ronin.

I don't want their Free RPG day to mean that they effectively lose sales.

Heck, that's kind of why I bought the M&M Mastermind's Manual. It's a good book, and I'm happy to have it, but the game I want to run is pretty much M&M right out of the book, so it's not like it's giving me that much helpful information for my campaign. I just wanted to give a clear "Hey, just for the record, I like this game, and I hope you guys keep making it" message.

Green Ronin is going to make good for all those who missed the free day due to server crashes.

Free RPG week:

http://greenronin.com/2007/06/lets_make_that_free_rpg_week.php

This past Saturday we offered three free PDFs as part of Free RPG Day. We expected the giveaway to be popular, but the response was truly staggering. We had server problems throughout the day because so many gamers were trying to download the PDFs. People endured long waits, while some never got through at all. This was certainly not our intent, and we apologize for any frustration that may have resulted. But talk, as they say, is cheap. We have decided therefore to take Free RPG Day and turn it into Free RPG Week. We will not only be offering those three PDFs for free again, but also putting a bunch of other PDFs on sale. To top things off we'll also be debuting the long-awaited Pirate's Guide to Freeport this week.

Wicked! I am running a couple of brief campaigns at a summer program with the True 20 rules. I hope that you do not mind my sending some more folks to get the download. :) (Hopefully some will get the hardcover or the pocket edition.)

The Auld Grump, wicked? Did I type 'wicked'? I've been in Maine too long.
