Is there a cost to the retail store to participate?

I think so, but if you're adept at retail and know something about loss leaders (which is essentially what the RPG freebies are), you can easily earn it back. Of course, as numerous threads here have described, a lot of game store owners don't know what a loss leader is or how to use it. For these folks, they probably see a box of give-away merch that they have to pay for and think "Man! What a rip-off!"

Glad to help. I don't know what the odds are of getting two of the packages are, though....probably slim. You might have better luck if one of these benevolent ENWorlders, who happens to also work at a participating game store, would volunteer to set aside one of the packages for you...

Anyone run into stores doing one item per person?

I did. There was a line of gamers out front, so one per person unless you got back in line.

I picked up the DCC gazetteer. What did everyone else pick up?

I was the second non-employee there when the store opened, but their kit was screwy, with only one set of Q-Workshop dice (instead of the 11, per the RPG Day site) and extra copies of pretty much every printed publisher contribution (except for the WotC stuff, which they didn't seem to get at all, sadly).

I missed the dice by scant seconds (which is all I really wanted to snag), but am satisfied with Traveller: Book 0, the Tunnels & Trolls quickstart, and the HarnMaster quickstart. Oddly, our FLGS also got a fat stack of C&C quickstarts, which weren't listed on the RPG Day site.

Weird.

I didn't Get the dice or the WotC module (those were gone by the time I went to my F N-S-L GS) but I did get the free mini, the DCC gazeteer, and the Dungeon Tiles.

Anyone get the WotC module? Is it any good?
