FREE Wishes(OK just really cheap)

Wasnt there something, somewhere about making the staff need to use more charges to cast the spell and thereby reducing the overall cost? Just make the wish need to use 10 charges or something ;)

/I keed, because I love.

The ability to create a staff with only 3 charges is NOT incredibly powerful, its not even remotely good. Only when combined with Master Staff would you even consider NOT allowing it.
Anything that leads to infinite wishes is "incredibly powerful".

Even without master staff you end up with staves giving you charges of spells that only cost spell level * caster level * 45gp. Slightly more expensive than scrolls, but they use your caster level and save DCs, so can get greater effects for less money than scrolls.

Its only SL * CL * 15 if you make the spell take 3 charges to activate. That's 3/5 the price of a scroll, but it uses your CL and ability scores.

How is that possible? AFAIK, you can only let a spell cost 2 charges to activate for half cost.

You should only be allowed to create staves that use one or two charges. Allowing otherwise devalues other forms of one-shot items too much. I also think that all staves should be forced to hold at least two spells as well.

While there are no examples of staves with one spell that I know of, there are exmples of staves with spells that take 3 charges to use (abjuration being the first one I saw).

So for the cost of a second feat(Craft Staff) and a Wish you can make discounted scrolls?!? :\

Might I point out the Magical Artisan feat that doesnt require a Wish to make discount scrolls.

Dude, that might require a Limited Wish to do.

And all this could be easily fixed if they just added a line to MWand and MStaff that said that the user needs to pay XP(gp?) costs that go with the spell

Ya know, That works. And for all intents and purposes, you have a staff with 5 charges.

Lets see,

9 x 17 x 750 = 114,750gp
divide by 10 charges = 11,475gp

Cost to Create 5737.5gp, 6 days, 459xp + 25,000xp

Thats just nasty, and the Staff of Life goes up to 5 charges for Raise Dead so theres precedent for using a lot of charges. Now imagine the savings a CLR would get with a Staff of True Res
