FreeCountry (Free DnD Mapper)

Added a download link at the top ... and here (Download the Alpha)

I re-iterate, this isn't hardly finished, and it requires .NET 2.0 Framework and the newest DirectX download from Microsoft's site.

Now, a few particulars before I get a ton of "bug" reports :)

1.) The cursor's possessed! Somebody shoot it before it mutates into human form!
Answer: The preview cursor is live-previewing the scatter option. Scatter is set to true by default.

2.) I hit "Save" ... my map is gone and I got no save dialog?!
Answer: The complete save options aren't finished yet, so it was stripped down to bare minimum. Saving clears the DirectX device currently (and involuntarily), so I'll find a work around for it before it's over. The save option does, however, save a "savedMap.tga" file to your application folder.

3.) I'm getting errors left and right at startup!
Answer: Make sure you have unzipped all the files into one directory and that the media folder is in this directory, and in the media folder there are category folders (and some files, like the Eraser and Black color tiles)

So, have at it, and report any problems you have (please) thanks!

Hey, Toga, could you please point me to the precise page as to where this download is at. It seems it takes me forever to find such things. Thanks.

Go with the fullest installs you can.

Edit: Also, fixed a bug with the snap tool where the preview cursor was offset the wrong amount. I'll start up the token adding/deleting and proper load/save and export options tonight. I'll upload/post the newest version when I reach the next milestone. Also going to make "WASD" change the tile rotations to 0, 90, 180 and 270, respectively. It's much easier to layout maps with these quick-set options :)

/me does a little dance. Almost done with the token add / remove / lock and unlock features! Next up is the save/load and export. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel :P

This is looking like some kickass work. Now, I need to find time to download components and test it out sometime!

Word to the wise: If I ever see anyone trying to pirate tilesets that Toga designs and sells in the future, I'll kick their virtual butts, 'cause Toga's family. ;)

Why pirate? The program uses png-tiles, and it's a breeze do create you own tiles.
Really, this program looks great - and for an alpha, it works amazingly well.

Me likes it. And I feel the itch to create tiles on my own. :)

This rocks!!!

Wow, DnDjinni beware, this rocks.
I'm looking forward to the finished product!
Thanks for the work, TogaMario!!!!

Greetings
Firzair

@Henry - Heeey, my brotha from anotha motha! Thanks for the support and praise :D

@Lord Tirian - Thanks :) I want this to be a strong community-supported program. User tiles quite welcome!

@Firzair - :cool: Thank you!

I would like to sell some tiles to make some money off the effort and time, but I'm also setting up a donations page. I'm close to uploading a middle of the road update (full tile placement, removal, locking and unlocking support).

I decided to postpone the release of the next update till I finish the proper load/save and export options. People could test it, and it would work for tiles, but nobody wants to re-position / rotate / scale all those tiles over and over, I'm sure :) I estimate about another hour or two before the beta version goes up.

And the moment we've all (or at least ... maybe ... someone) has been waiting for! The beta for FreeCountry. (Updated the picture at the top to reflect changes ... notice how the tokens appear over the lines :P) Map saving, loading, and exporting completely done (barring any additional format on export ... I tried JPG export, they look horrible, and I'm trying to figure a way to up the quality, but you can get higher quality with about the same file size with any of the others)

Added a paypal donation link on my main page, and a download link, and hopefully my forums will get some use, too, lol.

My Main Site

P.S. If you're looking for the grid toggle, it's in the bottom right corner of the map-view.

Edit: In the first 24 hours I had to patch it up already! If you downloaded before 2:10 a.m. EST on Dec-07-2006, you need to redownload it! Loading oblong tokens threw the paint center off, should be fixed now with this. Also added some tiles to the fray. Generic stuff like doors, a wall and corner set (simple thick line), and a couple of props that I'd already made for printed tiles, converted for use with the program.
