I didn't really speak of hold person, altho it's certainly also a compulsion, more of the other stuff, like Otto's.

Oh sorry, I thought you had changed your stance to FoM not working against Hold Person. My bad :)

Oh, I'm looking forward to seeing the responses to your list. I'd answer but I'm at work and it's too much work as I'm not familiar with a lot of those spells to answer without looking them up (ie, I'm lazy :P)

Going to use an * to mark the ones that I personally think it should work on.

1) Daze
2) Grease*
3) Sleep
4) Cause Fear
5) Tasha's Hideous Laughter
6) Gust of Wind*
7) Hypnotic Pattern
8) Magic Circle against Evil (you are summoned!)

19) Flesh to Stone
20) Forcecage
21) Maze
22) Binding
23) Otto's Irresistible Dance
24) Power Word Stun
25) Imprisonment

What sucks about this is that if I had to enforce this in game I would have almost nothing to back that up... this is really one of the few times with 3.x that I think it just does not make since and might not have been well thought out by WotC. Sometimes I am just not seeing things from the correct perspective but this is something different... it just does not seem to fit what the spell was originally intended to do.

I tried taking them off the list, but I kinda feel I need to talk about the ones I take off as much as what I want to keep on.

1) Daze - no - mind affecting
2) Grease - yes - magical means of hampering movement *
3) Sleep - no - mind affecting
4) Cause Fear - no - mind affecting
5) Tasha's Hideous Laughter - yes - **
6) Gust of Wind - yes - magical means of hampering movement
7) Hypnotic Pattern - no - mind affecting
8) Magic Circle against Evil (you are summoned!) - no - your alignment is being repelled, not you
9) Hold Person - yes - I would house rule it is not mind affecting, i know according to the normal rules it is.
10) Suggestion (worded to have you stand still) - no - mind affecting
11) Halt Undead - yes - weird, but true
12) Ray of Exhaustion (failed save) - no - ***
13) Confusion - no - mind affecting
14) Otiluke's Resilient Sphere - no -
15) Dominate Person (forced to stand still) -no-
16) Wall of Force -no-
17) Repulsion -yes- ****
18) Geas/Quest - no -
19) Flesh to Stone -no-
20) Forcecage -no-
21) Maze -no-
22) Binding -no- mind affecting and hugely powerful
23) Otto's Irresistible Dance - no - (sigh) mind affecting
24) Power Word Stun -no-
25) Imprisonment -no- just way to high level to be affected by FoM

*Instinct tells me that grease would not be affected by FoM because it creates a physical thing that slips you up, it isn't the magic itself stopping you. Then again, the same is true for Web, which is obviously affected, so this one is, too.
** Tasha's is affected for the same reason I've now had to change my mind on Otto's Irresistable dance... the mind affecting part. For Tasha's, it's not that you really are finding something so funny that you must laugh and can't move, it's that your body is being forced to laugh whether you like it or not (which is what i thought otto's was, except relating to dancing). It's on the wire, and I could probably be convinced otherwise, but since it is not mind affecting, I say FoM works against it. Since Otto's actually makes you want to dance, I don't think FoM works against it.
*** More than affecting movement, Ray of Exhaustion drains energy from you, not hampering movement so much as just making you tired.
**** I'm very much on the fence. I think I'd have to say this would be the highest level spell FoM would work against.

I know it's convoluted and nothing like how WotC probably thinks, but it's whta's in my head.

Well, here is what I think...

2) Grease
6) Gust of Wind
9) Hold Person (special case exception, because of paralysis)
11) Halt Undead (well, it's the hold person against undead)

Repulsion really is hard to decide, but I'm leaning towards Freedom of Movement not working against it.

All the others seem fairly straightforward to me.

P.S. Oh, and Gynsala, the Magic Circle against Evil effect has nothing to do with alignment. ;)

Apparently The Sage from Wizards of the Coast already ruled on this.

From the linK:
The spell becomes much more manageable if you just look at it as something that ignores any physical impediment to movement or actions.

In the same vein, freedom of movement would not work on someone who had been turned to stone by a medusa’s gaze or by a flesh to stone spell.
The debate is settled once and for all.

Yeah, because being turned to stone isn't a physical impediment!
(Yes, I believe I know your feelings about the FAQ)

"I walk through the Wall of Force"
"Umm, what? You can't."
"Sure I can, the Sage says so."

BTW, I love these 6 year old posts.
