Freeport in Everquest????????

Actualy, if you wanna be talking about things that are wrong, it's that map... Now, of course, they have to expand the EQ map... MMORPG cities are tiny. But I can't find several key buildings on that map, including the Arena and the Academy of Arcane Sciences...

Number 3 (the large central keep) is the Academy and number 5 is the Arena.

Well thank you all for clearing that up.

I bet $5.00 at least one person buys to the wrong being - be it everquest instead of green ronin or vice versa.

I bet there are thousands of Freeports out there in various homebrew campaigns over the years.

Yeah, I had a Freeport in my "Ravenwood" locale setting. You Raiders of the Lost Ark fans will get that reference.

That's exactly my point. I understand very well that it is a generic name, as well as the fact that the EQ Freeport pre-dates Green Ronin, but still Green Ronin's Freeport is quite well known in the D20 community, and that creates a lot of confusion.

I'm not saying it's a conspiracy or anything, but I think there will be mistaken purchases.

"Hey, this must be that cool Freeport setting book that John was telling me about."

I used to work with the folks from White Wolf, and we talked with them about their plans to put out their Freeport book as soon as they acquired the license for Everquest. (As an aside on how common the Freeport city name is, Steve Wieck was born in Freeport, Illinois!)

Originally, they'd planned to simply title their book The City of Freeport, but changed the name to Cities of Norroth: Freeport instead to try and make a clearer distinction between the properties.

When Chris chose to use Freeport as the name for his plug-and-play D20 city, the idea that Everquest would ever be ported over to be a D20/OGL-based RPG wasn't even a glimmer. None of us on either side anticipated the potential future confusion over the two cities, but we've tried to be decent and work it out as best we could.
