Freeport Trilogy... with Asaatthi!

Psion

Adventurer
I've been itching to run the Freeport Trilogy. I missed my chance to run it at 1st level, so contemplated powering it up to run at third level.

At the same time, I like the Scarred-lands snake-folk Asaatthi, and didn't feel the need to add another sort of snake folk.

So then... it occurred to me that I could kill two birds with one stone here... swap in the Asaatthi for the serpent-folk. There's even a shapeshifting Asaatthi variant in Vigil Watch: Asaatthi that would fill the bill nicely.

Anyone try this? Or any other power-ups for the Freeport Trilogy? Any ideas for adapting the backstory of the Asaatthi to fit their role in Freeport?

This is a great idea. I wish I had done this WAAAAAY back when. I ran this trilogy as our first foray into 3.0 when it launched.

I wouldn't mind running this for another groups of players, only now I am married and have less time to game, every other week with an extra sneak-in game once in a while is a good as it gets.

I grant you 5,000 XP for this venture! ;)

As for adapting their role, sure, make their "nameless god" be like a proto-Assatthi that Mormo raised up. Their whole race was destroyed when Mormo bit the big one. ;) Thus they seek revenge on humanity for their upstartedness. :)

Anything else you require Psion? ;)

Well, Mormo isn't really part of my cosmology... but she could be, being my favorite titan and all.

More generally, anyone scale up the Freeport Trilogy?

Well she's my third favorite (after Kadum and Mesos) but no reason to say she couldn't be like a Elder Titan from ELH.

*hasn't run the Freeport Trilogy so couldn't say* But it seems to me scaling it up shouldn't be that hard.

Almost. I converted the snakefolk to ssanu, the snake people of Arcanis. The problem is that ssanu are CR 8 or so compared to the low-level snakefolk, which makes them considerably more dangerous.

I also bulked up everybody in the adventure by a couple of levels. Attached the revised stats for Death in Freeport.

You can read how Death in Freeport went in our story hour: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=103252

That's because they are Yuan-Ti surrogates. I can see the problem.

Asaatthi, while they are nastier than serpent people, are not quite so nasty.

I was planning on doing something to that effect. Thanks.

I was seeing my Milos as an Asaatth Saahuet (inflitrator breed) Cleric 3, and possibly a level or two of mystic theurge.

Ssanu are CR4 not CR8, at least in the Ssethregore book, though an advanced Elder Ssanu might be higher. You could probably even make a lesser snakefolk either with one of the yuan-ti-ish templates in the back(if you wanted a shapeshifting hides-among-humans type), or just drop the poison DC and charm abilities of the CR4 ssanu.
