Fright Night Hogshead Publishing

Has anyone gotten one of these yet? It is a new series by Hogshead and they are modern classic horror scenerios it seems. There is one in antartica, one in a haunted school, one in an asylum, etc you get the idea. I looked through one in the store today and it looked pretty cool but I hadn't heard a thing about it so I picked up a changling book and Sorcerer instead.

They aren't really new, I think they first started coming out about a year and a half ago (early 2004).

I have the first one, Haunted House, which I liked a lot (there should be a review in the database here of it).

They're a combination of mini-games and adventures. That is, they are basically specialized variants of regular d20 meant for the included scenario - new classes and revised skill lists, relevent equipment, etc. For instance, the Haunted House one has 6 classes for psychics, and special psychic power rules. The one set in a school has 6 different classes for kids, I think.

I want to get the rest of the series, but they are sort of expensive for what you get (essentially a one shot) and my attempts to get review copies were unsuccessful. I plan on getting them eventually, but there's a lot of other stuff I want that would be more readily useful for me. They are really more suited to a pickup game or maybe a convention event.

Wow, now that's odd. It's not like I'm unaware of the new books coming out, how the heck did these slip by me? And most of EN World for that matter.

They are well-written and have lots of potential. Hogshead has been putting out some really good stuff for quite some time but a lot of folks don't know they are around because they are way under the radar. I haven't seen any of their newer stuff but plan on checking them out at Gen Con.

THe Frightnight series looks really good. I checked their website and see that they have other books that my LGS didn't have. So, I'm hoping to see them at the summer cons and see what else I've been missing.

Yes, Hogshead seemed to be releasing d20 products from the first moment they officially came under new ownership. Some interesting products if you are using modern settings.

The Fright Night series is great stuff, and so is the Crime Scene series. It was Ranger REG who first sold me on Crime Scene.

-Right. I went ahead and ordered one. What went down about a Russian sub. It was the only one available from my store of choice and since I'm only buying to satisfy my curiosity of the format it will do.
