From obscurity to major players

BOZ

Creature Cataloguer
Dagon. Dragotha. The King of Ghouls.

at one time, these were just names in books, and little else. young boys were left to imagine all the details, because there weren't any.

however, they were also forgotten by most people, because they were so obscure. now, they have been lovingly detailed by the creative ones who remember them from so long ago, and now they are major contenders.

what other beings have gone from almost nothing to quite a lot?

what other beings out there have the potential to do the same? i'm talking anywhere from just a name to maybe a paragraph of text at most.

Pale Night got a boost already. That was good to see in FC:I, etc.

I'd love to see Quimath, the Kyton lord of Jangling Hiter, get some more press [as well as that Ancient Baatorian he unknowingly has chained up in his tower...]

I'd also like to see Apomps the Triple Aspected get some airtime, being as how the 3e FF did their best to ignore him [if whoever wrote the entry was aware of it].

Then there's, well... all of the unique yugoloths: Mydianchlarus, Anthraxus, Bubonix, Cholerix, Typhus, Taba, Xenghara, and Charon. And then the Keeper of the Tower Arcane, Helekanalaith [who has a single quote and a listing of his title, and that's it ever], and his predecessor Larsdana Ap Neut [who likewise has a few lines on her in D&D ever]. I've made something of a pet project with the history and details of those latter two, just because of their role and the fact that they've never gotten real airtime in the published material.

And of course, Daru Ib Shamiq. Cannot forget him.

I'd like to see more about The Blowfish, the Awnsheighlien (from Birthright) now living on Gehenna. But as that's particular to not one, but two campaign settings, I doubt we'll ever see more of him.

I also miss some of the more esoteric altraloths from Dragon Annual #2, such as Taba and Typhus.

It'd also be cool to see more on Jazirian, the couatl deity who is, in fact, Ahriman's (aka Asmodeus's) good counterpart.

While writing Spectre of Sorrows and Price of Courage, I decided to make use of obscure Dragonlance material and give it some new life. PoC, especially, is full of newly-made major contenders.

Cheers,
Cam

Bargle the Infamous? I remember reading about him in my Karamiekos campaign setting. He was portrayed as a comical figure, though. Sort of a buffoon-mage. I gather this shouldn't be the case?

He was also featured in the first sample dungeon in the red D&D basic boxed set. I personally made him very not-nice and not-buffoonish when I completed that little dungeon. More homicidal maniac, really.
