Really liked Frostburn.

Now that I've been through Sandstorm I'm very disappointed. It has to be the most page count padded WotC product I've ever seen. Some gems here and there, but lots of useless drek.

I hate to say this, but I agree. I really liked Frostburn, but Sandstorm wasn't quite as good. Maybe it's the new PrC format; if I don't want to play the PrC in the first place, all that extra detail is useless to me. And, since you're cutting the number of classes I could potentially like to 1/3 normal, it's even less likely I'll find one I want. It included touchstones, which is a bad sign.

OTOH, the spells were pretty good (even though my al Qadim PC will never be able to cast them), as were the monsters. I inadvertantly pointed out to my DM that the CR on a hill giant were dire hippopotamus is the same as a regular dire hippo, with twice as much capability.

And novel wise... I do not read R. A. Salvatore for the same reason I did not like Frostburn, I find his writing unbelievable. But I do read a lot of fantasy, so it is not just realism.

I gotta agree a bit.
I haven't done a full read through yet, but so far I've been less than impressed. Especially with the PrC's, which simply did not excite me at all. I really, REALLY like the Dry Lich and the Sand Golem and quite a few of the spells, but so far... not much else. Disappointing.

Got it, read it, sitting on my bedstand right now. UA and a few other sources are driving this car right now. But I had high expectations for Sandstorm. Very high. Got a bit of an expanse to fill betwixt two wet lands.

Sandstorm is actually pretty good, it's just not as good as Frostburn.
