Full circle: D&D now being based on video games...

Doesn't Full Circle mean coming back to the way things used to be? I.e. D&D stops trying to be a videogame and videogames start trying to be D&D?

What you've got now is the reverse of what was. Everything turned on its' head.

Fighters have always been able to deal respectible damage but they have never been able to deal wizard- much damage. A lvl 10 wizard hitting 10 opponents with a fireball deals on average 175-350 damage in one action. I don't know how a lvl 10 fighter could deal that much damage.

This is obvious, it has always been like this but I think people tend to forget this when they react against the word "defender". Someone hears defender and they think about fighters with 250 hit points dealing 1d6 damage per attack. I think this is wrong.

My belief is that fighters in 4e will deal more damage than fighters in 3e but that they still will deal less damage than wizards.

Since BDD fighters have had more HP and AC than magic users but they have dealt less damage. The new thing with "roles" is that it is acknowledged this time.

This would be if 4e tried to be a video game.

Very true. I hope for D&D's sake Wizards hits success with Bioware or whoever is creating their videogame line. I believe Wizards desires to keep tabletop gaming alive.

Me too.
For what I know the big differences between video games and tabletop games are 1) that video games have computers doing the calculations which means they can have much more advanced systems than tabletop games and 2) that tabletop games have a much better "AI" in the GM, allowing for a much more varied and interactive experience.

3) TTRPGs are not limited by programming, rules, or by what a computer can do.

Yes, that is the irony of the title..but another famous person 'round-here recently said, "He did a 360 turn around, that should count for something." My arguments for starting this topic were very weak, I'll admit that, but saying "my gut tells me" doesn't work as well to talk about this serious topic.
