Fun Tricks with Useless Spells

From a previous post I looked at, I got the idea to cast light on someone's eyes, therefore possibly blinding that creature.
That was possible in previous editions, but I wouldn't allow it in 3e.

Well, our DM has us dumb down our conversations with Speak with Animals. So perhaps a Fox's Cunning would help the animal be smart enough to carry on a more intelligent conversation. (From 2 to 6). Not Stephen Hawking style, but better than some humans.

Our party found a half decomposed body and my Bard drew the short straw to search it. The party not wanting to get fleshy goo all over themselves laughed at my prissy bard. So I said 'sure' and cast Mage Hand to remove the signet ring we were looking for.

On a more practical joke side... A gnome bard in the party would always cast 'ghost sound' on the party paladin during important speeches with city council, or when accepting an award... usual sounds included belching, flatulation, or my favourite "How YOU doin?" to the local Lord's wife. - Needless to say, there was a lot of in party fighting and the paladin agreed to leave... (the player was really cool about it thankfully, as he laughed as much as we did)

Magic aura is a long lasting (multiple day) spell effect that can act as a distractor target for area dispels on items with other spells going on them, such as magic weapon, etc. since area dispels only remove one active spell on a target.

Fun with spells, fun with potions..

Many years ago now, I was playing a one shot with a friend of mine. The character was a pyromanic, chaotic neutral, cleric of a god of fire.

He cast fire trap on the local mayors door, then knocked, then ran.

Not quite the same, but we also pioneered the use of animal testing in a D&D game. the 2nd edition DMG stated that an identify spell cost about 1000 gp. He did not have that kind of money, but he did live in a rat infested shack. So we decided that a minor taste would give an idea of what a potion did without using all of it.

Potiion of super heroism + rat meant that hilarity ensued. Same with a potion of growth, which caused a godzilla rat. This resulted in a lynch mob coming for him.

He also used a potion of invulnerability, and started doing pushups. He was hanged by a noose, and let him self off. The townsfolk left him alone after that.
