Fun With Templates 7: The Ereban

Mmmm... I'm looking over the character sheets of my 14th level party. Over half have permanent see invisibility, and the rest have some way to see invisible, too.

True seeing is a limited currency at that level. Invisibility is not a big deal.

Hmm. Bad suggestion on my part. I'd recommend more mobllity instead -- dimension door or Shadow Jump or flicker mystery or something.

I looks a lot better now, more of an appropriate challenge due to its CR. Improved Toughness has no prereqs and adds +1 hp her HD of base ceature. I like to give creatures 3/4 max hp, so I upped its hp to a total of 162.

Still looks a little on the weak side, when looked at next to a Marilith.

Do people agree that a Marilith is a normal CR 17? (I haven't used many in play ... yet ... :])

I'm more inclined to lower the Ereban's CR than up its power anymore at this point, although I may fiddle with the SLAs a bit (dimension door does seem tempting.) Comparing it to another beasty I have in the works (which is actually CR 18, IIRC, but has 36 HD) it definitely seems a bit underpowered.

Does CR 15 sound more reasonable?

In my opinion, you could drop it back to 14 and give it Fire Vulnerability again -- make a note that they fear Balors. A lot.

You'd reward players who see through to your inspiration and know a bit of old monster lore. :)

Hmm. I like this, although I'll have to sleep on it and see if it works.
