I was very confused by this one initially... I had to do extensive google searching to find a definition! Everyone kept talking about BECMI D&D as if it were a third party product that I'd overlooked...

You and Steely Dan both. I'm still chuckling over him pontificating of "the way D&D always was" only to turn around and tell me BECM wasn't D&D. :D

1E = First Edition Dungeons & Dragons
2E = Second Edition Dungeons & Dragons

You mean,

1E = First Edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons
2E = Second Edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons

The first edition of D&D is actually known as OD&D, and D&D does not begin and end with AD&D.

I've heard of

BXD&D to specifically be the Moldvay/Cook version of Basic and Expert D&D, while BECMI D&D refers specifically to Mentzer's version of that line.

GIven the proliferation of GSL threads, I'm surprised that "IANAL" (I Am Not A Lawyer) hasn't been mentioned yet.

I don't like this one because I can NEVER remember what it's supposed to mean. :)

NSFLGS - Not so friendly local game store.
QFT - Quoted for Truth.

You forgot:

d20M = d20 Modern
d20F = d20 Future
BESM = Big Eyes Small Mouth
BoEF = Book of Erotic Fantasy*
CM = Circvs Maximvs
GoO = Guardians of Order (the long defunct game company that originally produced BESM)
MtG = Magic the Gathering

*If only it were converted and updated to 4e... that product would be pure of win due to the new abilities/powers mechanics.

I've put all the abbreviations in alphabetical order and added everyones' suggestions. I think it would be good to sticky this thread so that my name can live forever on Enworld newcomers to the forums have a handy reference.
