G.I. Joe Sigma 6??

I caught this on Cartoon network the other day. I think it was Cartoon Network, anyway.

Very strange. It was G.I. Joe, except in an Anime style. I guess they have replaced the entire team of G.I. Joe and all the people that that entails, with 6 core team members, and like a kid and his robot dog, or something like that. Very odd.

Duke, Snake Eyes, and Scarlet were there, and then Heavy Duty, Tunnel Rat, and some other one I didn't recognize. Some tech dude, who sort of stayed out of the action. The first three, I can understand. But Tunnel Rat? That's a really obscure character from later on in the series. And Tunnel Rat, from what I remember, was some sort of Vietnam-esque hardened soldier who lived in tunnels. This guy was some spastic idiot.

On the Cobra side, it seems they've replaced all the soldiers with B.A.T.S., since I guess you can have a lot more carnage blowing up androids as opposed to people. Destro, Baroness, and Cobra Commander were there. There may be others, but those were the only ones that were in this particular episode. I think in a preview of another episode, they showed Storm Shadow, which makes sense since they have Snake Eyes.

Anyway. Anyone seen this thing? It's a far cry different than the G.I. Joe I grew up with.

Sigma 6 start off where Valor vs. Venom (available on DVD) ended. That's why General Hawk is in the hospital, recovering from a forced genetic experiment from COBRA.

Tunnel Rat and Hi-Tech also starred in V vs. V. Long-Range happens to be the new character for Sigma 6.

I have mixed feelings about the anime style. In some cases, I think the designs worked, like Snake-Eyes. In others, well, they aren't necessarily bad, but look so different that I don't care for them. For example, the look of the new Scarlet is perfectly fine, but it just isn't Scarlet. Baroness, from what little I've seen, didn't look bad.

They do overdue it with some of the minor anime stuff, imo, such as the villains sitting, looking bored, with their head resting on thier fist. I saw that pose two or three times.

Anyway, I gave up on the series after a couple of episodes. Once they introduced the kid and his robot dog, I was done.

Meh.

I, too have mixed reaction toward this anime work. It could have been better. Scarlett doesn't look like she's old enough to drive nor look anywhere a sophisticated lady I'm used to envision her (based on the old series and V vs. V).

At the risk of getting flamed, it makes me wonder if the anime is meant for the Japanese audience than it is for the American audience.

You mean Hawk's son? Didn't know that GI JOEs are meant to have families.

It's closer to the G.I. Joe you grew up with than the G.I. Joe you grew up with is to the GIjOE I grew up with.

It was definately made for the US audience. They are trying to sell action figures to kids who grew up on Pokemon and other anime stuff.

The robot dog was incredibly dumb. I hope it doesn't show up again. Over all, I think the show is hit and miss. Then again, so was the original...as for other characters introduced, from the half dozen eps or so I've seen, I've seen them use the Native American Shaman guy...he can see through his hawk's eyes and has some other vague spiritual abilities. On the bad guy side, they brought back the Astralian gang...their name escapes me, but the leader is pretty cool, and some of them have lightsaber chainsaws, apparently.

i gave it a try... i wasn't fond of it. but then, i also grew up with the original series. so maybe it just appeals to the younger crowd that only has this to start with - more and more saturday cartoons are being done in the anime style so i guess it's liked... just not for me though. to each his own :)

Ah. Pity. I guess Anime and Disney are the only marketable animation, not like the 70's and 80's.

I have only seen a couple episodes of Sigma 6. I didn' t realize it tied into V vs V. IIRC Kamakura was in V vs V. Has he appeared in Sigma 6 yet?
