Hi, this is a report/overview of an AL Expeditions game I ran recently. It is very spoilery in parts

Exp Scenario: The Drowned Tower

Cast of Characters:

Rexar the Pirate Barbarian/Rogue

Dragnor: Dwarven Wizard in Medium Armor

Grigor: Human Druid aka the Moonbeam man aka the Were-Horse

Played on Weak

What went down

The party were travelling down a backstreet in the Docks to go buy Grigor some Armor (Hide).

Coming across the end of a battle with a Mage being outclassed by some Tattoed bandit types

Losing Init, Rexar rushed forward with no real clue to what was going on but said that he didnt want to fight fellow Pirates. The bad guys next acted and ran forward to beat on Rexar followed by their leader. All missed thanks to extemely poor rolls. the Mage on the ground backed off and took at least one hit as forgot to disengage. Some hung back and decided to take shots at the two casters missing badly

Dragnor decided to introduce the bandit leader to some magic missiles and then Grigor well.. Grigo activated standard plan 1: Moonbeam which started to press the thugs against Rexar. Rexar thanks to some great dice rolling took out a thug and then the moonbeam menace started to cause havoc for both the leader and a thug. Both managed to score some hits on a now raging Rexar. Dragnor proceeded to firebolt some of the thugs at the rear. Grigor not known to do much while the Moonbeam was in effect decided to concentrate its firepower on the thugs at the rear now.

Rexar then dispatched the thug next to him and then attacked the Bandit leader wounding him. Bandit leader just kept missing as the ranged thugs winged Dragnor but missed Grigor. Radiant Death via the Moonbeam dispatched one of the Thugs firing, and the other thug was badly wounded. Dragnor firebolted this one to death. as Grigor moved the Moonbeam in for the kill. Rexar not being able to use his Sneak attack was a different combatant than normal and was fighting a pitched battle with the Bandit leader (who was very hurt). Dragnor missed with his spells and Grigor did little but move the moonbeam. Rexar was close to finishing the Bandit leader as the moonbeam did.

Salvar dusted himself off, and spoke some pleasantries to the party after which they decide to accept his offer to meet with him later after they had bought some equipment for Grigor. Dragnor expressed interest in joining the Cloaks

Rexar wanted money up front for helping out Salvar but was promised some.

Resting at a nice inn overnight, the next day the group went to the Tower of AM and saw Salvar who asked them to investigate the murder of his 'friend'. Everyone took him at face value, and again Rexar wanted money up front . The group was promised 10 platinum which they decided to accept and were told about 3 locations to search.

Deciding to investigate the mages apartment first in the docks area, the party mostly wanted to know how 'cookoo' the friend had gotten as they found a pretty run down room in a pretty average apartment block which had paintings and Heretic inscribed on the wall. Searching around they found notes, and Dragnor is able to use magic to read them. They take them and keep searching. Rexar instead decides to shake down a bum who lives in the same building as he walks past for information and finds out that the person staying there had bee saying some really weird stuff: and this was coming from a drunk. They also find some valuables hidden away.

Going next to the Rusty Chock , the group meet with the owner (whose name they never ask for ) Rexar manages to really impress the owner to the point where he averts a combat which was starting to look imminent. The Owner speaks to how the crazy mage started saying the wrong things around the wrong people and some people decided to go and rough him up. The group has now got a good idea of what happened to the mage .

Next stop is the 'Bridge Temple to Umberlee'. Meating with the High Priestess of the Shrine, The party is pretty intimidated by her, to the point where they were going to leave before really asking her anything. They get up the courage to ask her about the murder of the crazy mage and she tells them about him risking the city because of his blasphemy. She warms to Rexar slightly (even if he worships TALOS!.. lol I didnt know this before the game honest). She has seen vision of a strange item that holds the key to power that Umberlee demands and tells Rexar that in order to avoid death at sea that he must bring it to her. Rexar ever the capitalist asks for coin and she promises him 1000 lions.

Returning to Salvar, the party tell him about the connection of Fivestars to the strange water images and heresy and Salvar dosnt seem to believe them but has managed to learn about a place called the Drowned tower which holds an item that he (and the party assumed that he wanted the item for himself not the Cloaks). He is willing to offer 100 platinum for the item ... (Rexars player attempted to turn it into a bidding war.. but then realised he didnt want to piss off Umberlee)

They leave for the Drowner tower and progress through by accessing it via the stairs and then using the notes they have recovered leave some rooms behind ( was trying to keep to 4 hours here so didnt mind this so much). They do encounter the Black Puddings and thanks to the magic of ... moonbeam and Wizard dispatch them.

Heading downstairs, Rexar triggers the portculis trap and whilst avoiding it manages to get himself sealed on one side as the Reavers spew out and attack him. Again thanks to a combination of very poor attack rolls, he starts killing them pretty quickly and with armor on dosnt have to worry about their rather pointy longswords. The Fathomer is actually hit by the Wizard with at least 2 crits by a scorching ray and thanks again to Moonbeam dies without really having had a chance to do much.

Now the other trick the Druid does is spam Giant Owls into the room. I can it Standard plan 2. So the room is full of ows and cultists. The owls normally die but they take a lot of the enemy with them which is what happened here.

Next up the party continues on and encounters some more cultists and Water weirds. They have a pitched fight but come out on top and then rest for an hour in a secure location. I was running lowish on time by this point so the Skeletons came in a bit later in the final fight.

The Final fight is a bit anticlimatical. Between more spamming of Giant Owls and Moonbeam , Therus and his flunkys die fairly quick and there is table panic when Hydra appears, who is surrounded by Giant Owls. This proves good for the group as it starts missing (groan) the Owls and taking the hits for the party while a supercharged moonbeam starts ripping through the cultists, water weird and then the Hydra. (sad ) . I do get some hits in on Rexar but thanks to rage never get to take him down. They grab the Trident and skiddadle (I played up the Mud issues all adventure literally crushing the tower).

The party decides to give the Sphere of Water to Umberlee (I do repeat she is known as pretty much uncaring, is more feared than worshipped and is thoroughly evil ) but mostly get Shrugs from the players (they havnt trusted Savras since the first fight).

And thats the Drowned Tower!.
