Dammit, Daniel! Ya make me show a bit of steel (and monkey!) last night with Danse Macabre (v1.65), now you have me wanting to finish up the d100 game by the 26th...

From the draft of "d100" aka "GrittyDarkness" (at present), the core mechanic:

A C T I O N S

Anytime a player or NPC needs to do something (use a skill,
perform a task, etc.), they are attempting an Action. D100
uses a novel system for calculating a character’s ability in any
given activity. To determine a character’s level of competence,
the character’s specific Skill is added to a Co-Attribute, which
may be any one of the character’s basic attributes. These
vary from situation to situation. Any given Skill may have
a number of Co-Attributes, each one to be used for a specific
circumstance.

MAKING Action ROLLS
A character makes Action rolls with a D100, adding both the
value of the Co-Attribute and the Skill to the number rolled.
This generates a number between 0 and 199, referred to as the
Action Total, which determines both failure or success, and
degree of success.

Attribute + Skill Score + D100 Roll = Action Total
31 + 26 + 68 = 125

Reading the results:
First digit: Success or Failure (1/0)
- simple yes/no determination
Second digit: Rank of success (0-9)
- multiplier for damage/"number of successes"
Third digit: Hit location (0-9)
- might/might not have application for all rolls

As shown above, each digit of the Action Total represents
some aspect of the attempted action. The first digit is like a
binary number - either zero or one - and represents basic success
or failure. A one (1) is positive, and indicates a successful
action. A zero (0) is negative, and indicates the action has
failed. When successful, the second digit then determines
the Rank of success - the higher the Rank the more successful
the action. And in combat situations, the third digit is used
to determine the hit location.

Very simple, straightforward character actions may only
require the first digit (succeed/fail) to be resolved. Others will
be open-ended, where higher Ranks reflect greater and more
complete successes — and sometimes these may be opposed
by another PC or NPC’s roll. Still others will be assigned a
Rank Target, which must be equalled or exceeded to achieve
success. Remember, a total of 100 exactly (a Rank 0 success),
while not an outstanding or impressive display of skill, is still
a success.

(Even if I don't run this as the engine for a "zombie invasion" game on the 26th, I'm still finishing it up as a 24 Hour Game to be dumped into the lap of 1KM1KT...)

But, J--, D-- and I are soooooooooooo there for the Grindhouse... And if we're there already I might as well ask - any open afternoon slots still?

Yes, we are still looking for volunteers and have space open in both the morning and afternoon slots.

Halfway through I was still going "what's novel about that?", but then I read the bit on how to read the results. Clever. I could see that last digit being used to decide among multiple potential outcomes as well. Interesting concept, good luck with the contest!

At Little Wars over this last weekend, someone ran several events as scaled up versions of the FFG Lord of the Rings board game (with expansions) and expansions. Before I go further into what I might run, let me first ask if anyone (else besides myself) would be interested in something along those lines?

d100 is done - just going to give it a quick proof before PDFing and posting here and 1KM1KT. However, the needs of 3 year olds come first...

Overview:
--System: that squeaky fresh d100 system, natch...
--Players: up to 10, shoot for a conservative 5. Anyone who wants to join in after the start can help with NPCs (I'm easy like that)
--I'll have 12 pregens on hand to choose from (and a number of full sheet NPCs if any choose to be PCs)
--prefer AM slot, but again... I'm easy like that.
--by all-ages, I'm assuming you mean "of reasonable roleplaying age" - 8+... I'll do what I can to have it be "appropriate" to the ages represented.
--since the rules aren't even in physical form yet, obviously no experience is needed with them. The "System in a Can" that was a writing challenge on Forge is definitely part of the design motivations here, so I'm expecting the pre-game to consist of 3 minutes of explanation of rolls and tricks, followed by 2 minutes of setting and scenario. Basically, what I'd show at a booth at a Con...

The Pitch:
The World Is My Ashtray
Some gifts for the Kindred under star-strewn nights,
Some for the Awakened on this ball of stone,
Some for the Garou ’neath Luna’s pure light,
One man who took them all his own
In a world of darkness, where the shadows lie.
One man who stole them all, one man who twined them,
One man who claimed them all and in his life combined them
In this world of darkness, where the shadows lie.

(As can be taken from the pseudo-Tolkien-ism, this will be "epic" yet gritty and use elements from WW WoD but in a non-WoD way... but it's all about an ashtray. A simple, ordinary ashtray... ;) )

9:27pm - attached core rules with example weapons and armor.
14 Apr - added "mission briefing." Pregen thumbnails to come later.
15 Apr - added "semi-public" backgrounds for the pregens (2 teams of 5, with alternate configs for "special" purposes including 2 others.)

I hate to do it, but life has just gotten way too busy as of late and I think it would be wise of me to withdraw my event from the list. I may still be able to attend, but I don't forsee getting a game in order to run.

Sorry!

It sounds intriguing to me ^^ I'd like to hear what you can come up with.
