FWIW, only one of the seven players in our group fits the "typical gamer" description and physical profile. Most of us are pretty active and have an array of athletic interests to go along with our love for RPGs.

And...I've added two photos to the EN World Member Gallery.

waifs be damned....

Oh well, someone here has to stand up for the waifs against all the bodacious wenches who apparently inhabit the boards – I’m slim (read skinny with no chest) and thank the fashion gods on a daily basis that I haven’t been cursed with the 1950’s fashions. I do however fit the pale image … so white I flouresce in sunlight for a brief period of time before I turn lobster red. I know exactly what Randomling means regarding veins ... a great many of my friends are doctors and when they were learning how to stick needles into people they all drooled over the veins I have clearly visible everywhere.

Hey is it just me or does everyone else look in the mirror every so often and are really surprised at what they look like. I think my self-image differs substantially from reality and every now and then I must need to realign the two and I get a shock.

At one time there were two Gamesmaster's in Houston. One was in Jersey Village on Hwy 6 and 290, and the other was in Claer Lake. The one in Clear Lake was sold and changed its name...can't remember to what though. The Jersey Village location was about 2 minutes from my house ao I did a lot of my shopping there, but really over the last few years its been Nan's and 3rd Planet. The only other shop I knew was Midnight Comics on Hwy 6 and Westheimer.

I started off collecting Comics because of my Star Wars obsession and that was how I got into rping because of the Star Wars rp book.

Legend's Comics and Cards in Sugar Land was my primary home base before it was bought out by the woman "Barbara" - ah ok. I don't go Clear Lake --- hey I think I know what you mean about the Midnight Comics ...but I've never been there.

I remember one good thing though - much like when you go barhopping - if you're a woman and you spend some time chatting up the place you can get some really nice discounts ;)

See, one more area that men have the dissadvatage. This goes back to your "high class problems" we men would love to have! :D

Randomling, I only saw your picture once, and I can honestly what stayed in my mind was your smile, and your glasses. I remember that you were blonde, kind of a sandy color I think, and seemed cheerful. It doesn't change how you describe yourself, but I wonder if like Alish20 says, your personality changes others perception of you. Personally, I'd like to meet you and the others should I ever get to the UK.

Maybe the question we should ask, if personality really does color perception of appearance, is whether we as a group are too introverted or antisocial? Are we geeks because we look like geeks, or because we act like such?

here is the perception thing. i met randomling, i remember the pale skin, i would call it porcelainous, the kind princesses have in fairy tales. i remember a smile that really hit you, a real "i mean it" smile. i remember long blond hair, and a confidence in her speech that came without a presumptious attitude. she goes back and forth between being interested and interesting smoothly and i do not remember her speaking porrly about anyone or anything.

i often wonder how much how someone sees themselves affects their outer appearance....

I think quite a bit. Plus, she has a wombat as her avatar which automatically makes her 10 times cooler than everyone I know :)

Everyone has good and bad qualities...When someone focuses more on the good, it shows through in their whole overall appearence that they are happy with who they are.

Actually if you look at most model's when they talk about their childhood, they never thought they were that attractive until someone else noticed and then they blossomed.

I know when I was younger I always thought I was the ugliest thing - it didn't help that my mom believed my hair was a great place to experiment on the most hideous of hairstyles. *shudders* and always conviently before the required school picture. (thus my lingering dislike of displaying my own picture - ugh the memories!)

Then I hit college and everything changed drastically (besides not letting my mom touch my hair again - ever). All of sudden I was the most popular girl on campus, considered one of the most beautiful, and all kinds of men kept hitting on me wherever I went. Mostly the jocks and the over-achievers though as I apparently scare off the guys I really like to date (the quieter more intelligent ones - super intelligence is super sexy in my book).

The more I agreed with the image, the more people seemed to agree with me, and now I am really the most spoiled girl ever.

:D

Its because you ACT like such.

Honestly - I never considered dating the guys I met in the stores because they usually freak me out. I mean enough with the uncomfortable staring already.

that was a generic we, as in those of use perceived as geeks.

I do understand the reaction to the stares however. My most common companion in game shops is a man who cannot help but stare, whistle, or comment on every remotely attractive woman he sees, much less in a gameshop. Its a source of constant embarrasment. I hope that personality trait doesn't get added into the stereotype.

How do you think I feel? I have a horrible self image! I'm a green and blue monkey with glasses!
