Here is another snippet:

Um....yeah. I think. I really don't think sticking Mialee, et al in the core books really helped in this area. Strong characters come from good DM/player interaction, right-sized challenges, and purpose. Alot of these things stem from the campaign setting, though I've never wanted to play Raistlin, Mordenkainen, etc...
