Gamers Slandered In NY Times

"Once you get those guys, you're not going to get the orthopedic surgeons convention," said William E. Wallace III, a lawyer at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy who represents Flatley."

Hum... I read this a little bit different then everyone else. I thought of this more as, "Once you reserve the convention for these guys at less price, then you're not going to get the orthopedic surgeons convention at full price for that period of time since it is booked"

It is somewhat difficult to determine if he means that once a "D&D" convetion has been held at the establishment that the property is worth less, or if once a time slot is filled at a lower price we might lose some business that would like to use that time slot.

Just a thought.

Okay... when I was a sprout, I went to two Dr. Who conventions at the St. Louis Adams Mark Hotel. I believe that Whovians are a much more "eclectic" crowd than most gamers, and Adams Mark outranks a Mariott any day of the week.

Also, was that Quincy Mass or Quincy Illinois? If it's Illinois, I may get to stay up there overnight next year for my job. Shall I represent us?

Finally, that wasn't the real William Wallace that said that. The real William Wallace is seven feet tall and shoots lightning out his arse.

Remember now, its not the nuerosugeons who have a problem with us, its just the orthopedic surgeons who don't like us. If it was all doctors they woud have said so.

For what it's worth, I read it the same way Josh did. Of course, I'm a lawyer. We all use the same thieves' cant.

Not a lawyer here, but here's my thought. It would be possible for the guy to have been meaning that if you've got a place booked up solid for a weekend, you can't have a different group book up the hotel.

There's also the fact that if he was thinking that it wouldn't be ideal to have the two conventions at the same time. I mean, I was at Dragon*Con this year, and you wouldn't want to have a orthopedic surgeon's convention with a bunch of half-naked goth girls wandering around and distracting all the guys, right?

Of course, my default assumption is that he was slamming gamers, but I had to play Devil's advocate

I personaly feel that any convention can be improved with a bunch of half-naked goth girls wandering around.

I agree that anything is improved by goth chicks. Or CSG(Catholic School Girls) as long as they'er around 16 or 17(I'm only 19). Or my girlfriend and her Velma-from-Scooby-Doo-esque sweaters and pleated skirts.

Or just women in general.

First, having attended numerous medical conferences, I can safely say that overall, the presence of a bunch of half-naked goth girls would be an improvement.

Second, knowing a fair number of orthopedic surgeons, I would wager that they would agree with me.

:)

PS: Lizard is so cute when he gets grumpy over these things. :)
