Games you need to go outside your normal group to play

For my main group, the restriction isn't on genre or playstyle of game. The restriction is that they prefer long-running campaigns.

When they want a campaign that's three to five years long, I'm only going to try two or three rulesets with them per decade.

I've enjoyed it way more than I should be. I'm tracking my progress in a journal, and I'm on my 3rd mission in the Gamma Quadrant so far (a sort of Voyager story, having been moved light years from my original patrol area and discovering new worlds while dealing with a possible Dominion saboteur on my ship...).

One game I have played with others, but I am not so sure my current group would like to play it is Good Society: a Jane Austen rpg.

I haven't been able to run these as they require players who are read-into the lore: anything 40k, L5R.

I can understand that. I picked up RuneQuest on the cheap last year, but before I even finished reading it I knew I wasn't interested in running it unless everyone was up to speed on the lore. I've run into some problems with L5R with players who really didn't have an understanding for the setting, but overall I've had some success running it.

My gaming group had a big shakeup last year, so I might have better luck with some of these, but here are the games I've been unable to run.

Pendragon: The main difficult is everyone's a human knight and I'm not sure the Virtue/Vice system would be a good fit for some of my players.

Bladerunner: Investigative games are hit or miss. With the change up, I think I can sell my players are this one.

Delta Green: Another investigative game, but one where the minds and bodies of PCs are going to wear down. Hasn't been a popular choice with some players.

I've wanted to give a long term campaign like that a shot except break it up into different seasons. Like play the campaign arc for a few months, then play something else, return to the campaign, take a break, lather, rinse, and repeat. Another idea I've toyed with for the better part of 25 years is a mega campaign where we play several different games but they're all connected somehow. I think the movie Heavy Metal gave me the idea.

If we were playing weekly, I could see that. We nominally play twice a month, so we're good enough if we just change genre after each campaign.

I've stood up an "RPG of the month" series to run one-shots in various systems to at least dip a toe in some other systems.

I have such a hard time getting one of my groups to play anything that isn't F20... or more specifically, 5e. Although I do have a second group that is made up of more seasoned gamers that will just about play anything.

I've tried to do tat a couple of times but never went back to the original campaign so I stopped. Now, when I run a long campaign, I run it start to finish

My guy's group is not fond of WEG D6 Star Wars. Luckily my teenage kid's group loves it, so I get my fix there.
