Gaming and Life in Nebraska?

L-Town a lil O-Town?

Oh My goodnes.

That is the biggest insult I've ever heard. Omaha is a morass of evil big city-ism terrible traffic, terrible drivers, and nothing really cool to do, not many shows or bands come thru like in a real big city.

Lincoln, my home town, is an oasis of guilty pleasure, truly a shining jewel in the heart of the mindwest. Omaha is more of a kidney stone of the midwest.

Alright enough playa hatin. Lincoln is nice, its not SUPER COOL, but man its nice and you can find Killer Apts for pretty cheap. If youve got 700-1000 bucks to waste on an apartment BUY a HOUSE! theres a good market in Lincoln.

Also: Some, not most but some, Licolnites refer to Council Bluffs as 'Council-tucky' as in Kentucky as they think its a bunch of hics. Which I love because they are calling people that live 60 miles away hics, BUT they arent somehow? Any way CB is a weird place that has a lot of warn out areas but some really nice houses and stuff. My Grandparents live their and they live in a very nice area.

Football under Osborne is the Golden Age of Huskerism. Solich has really brought the program down. I hate football and some how I know way too much about it! You just cant escape it.

Places to go:

Iron Brush Tattoo for Tattoos
O-Zone for 'cool' clothes and body piercing
A Novel Idea for used books
YaiYais for pizza and Beer
The Mill for Coffee, I love the Mill, I love everyone that works there, I love the Owners, I love the fact its right across the street form the OVEN, best indian food EVER!
Brick Top hip bar
Duffys Bar Bar
O'Rourkes 'ugly peoples bar' THE place for last call and after hour parties

Anyway there you go all you ever wanted to know about L-Towna nd more

$500? $700??

Heh...I live in Colorado. We had ALL of California move here before the Tech bust and they brought their million dollar house prices with them. Now, any house that costs $150 in Nebraska costs a cool half million here. I lived in a house in a crappy part of town that I bought for 150 and sold it a year later for 192. Ahhh, there was some gaming cash to be had after that. I'm just glad that interest rates are low, it too allows me to afford gaming books. I can get 4.0 and maybe 3.95%..hopefully before they find out I'm changing my company status (and my 'gaming' habit) :)

It's an ok place to live. People are very friendly when you get out of Omaha but the people in Omaha are rude and angry.
Good lord man! I've never been to the place in Omaha of which you speak and I hope to God I never find it! I've lived in Omaha all my life and really the mix of people is just as diverse as anywhere (leaning toward nice) and I've yet to encounter any really rude asswipes from Council-tucky. Freaking scary maybe, but friendly as all get out. :)

But that's the thing; you've lived here all your life. I'm a stranger looking in. I think if you grow up in a location, you eventually take it for granted and have a hard time seeing what someone from the outside points out. I'm not saying everyone in Omaha is a jerk and is very rude; I just think there are a lot of people in Omaha that I just don't like. :(

And you're right about CB. Very friendly people but definitely a bunch of hicks. I fit in well... ;)

I was born in Nebraska and lived there for 25 years. I even went to the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. Some of this information may be outdated, as I moved to Arizona 5 years ago.

My personal opinion of Nebraska is that its a great place to raise a family, but isn't really a good place for a bachelor (that's why I left). In my experience you needed to drive 3-4 hours to see a decent concert (Ames, IA or KC, MO). It doesn't have any major league sports and there wasn't a lot of culture (i.e. theater). Every couple years Les Mis would be in Lincoln, but other than that ... not a lot. This may have changed, because I believe they built a new convention center.

That being said, if you know where to look you shouldn't have a problem finding a game. I grew up in Bellevue (just south of Omaha) and I often gamed at Ground Zero Hobbies during high school. During that time they had a good selection of gaming materials, but that could have changed. On Friday and Saturday nights they would pull out a bunch of tables and you could play anything from D&D to Axis & Allies. The store I loved (mainly because it was the only store for a long time) was Dragon's Lair in Omaha. It was kind of a hole in the wall in the early years, but it will always hold a special place in my heart (before I left they had remodeled it).

In Lincoln, I was one of the original employees of Comic World (until I had a falling out with the manager). They had always stocked a good selection of games (and Anime if you're into that). I'm not overly familiar with the other shops as I always shopped at the one I worked for. If I remember correctly there was a couple of Cosmic Comics, but they didn't carry a lot of gaming stuff and there was a little shop near campus called Spellbound Books. The university had a gaming club, so if you went to check that out I'm sure you could find a game.

Hope that provided some useful information. On a side note, does anyone know if Rochelle and Garner still work at Comic World and does Tim still own it?

Guess I better pull that AK47 out of my pants before I get arrested.

Of the 5 states not allowing concealed weapons I've lived in 3. What was I thinking?
