Gargantuan Miniatures?

I have been skooled. I bow to the collective wisdom on this point. :o

As soon as I saw your post I thought of the of the Klingon ship in Undiscovered Country, when the Fed ships finally get a lock on it... Seems I was right. :p If it makes you feel any better, I've been in the same position on something else, but worse - I realized my boo-boo about 5 minutes after posting, but it was too late and the barrage had already begun...

Too late for the Star Wars lesson.

Ah well, since nobody else said it:
AT-AT -- All Terrain Armored Transport -- Imperial Walker
AT-ST -- All Terrain Scout Transport -- Chicken Walker

(Yup, they're called Chicken Walkers. At least by the movie crew.)

To be truely geeky, I also know their names in French: AT-AT becomes TB-TT (Transport Blindé Tout-Terrain), AT-ST becomes TR-TT (Transport de Reconnaissance Tout-Terrain).

And for the fine connoisseurs of irony who enjoy a title like "gargantuan miniatures", I advice to look at the racial description fo the fire giants in the Monster Manual. :)

Also called a Scout Walker. :)

Ah, ha, that jumped my brain. The AT-ST's predecesor that we'll see in Ep III is the AT-RT. All Terrain Reconnaisance Transport, I'd expect.

And then, of course, we have the All Terrain Okkult Mover, or AT-OM, which is really small. ;)

I also heard about the big dragons. In fact, MerricB has this in his news:

"The 'bigger than Huge' figure is definitely a dragon (not that that will come as a surprise to anyone). I think that Wizards have mockups for both colossal and gargantuan in process. It's colour will probably be red, but as they are still sculpting, that could change. Unfortunately, they are still early in the process, so there is no way to get anything definitive. Wizards are shooting to release it by the end of the year, if possible."

It was posted by someone anonymous.

I only clicked this thread because of the great title... Though not a massive miniatures fan these days, I enjoy the sight of an appropriately-scaled dragon staring down an adventuring party as much as anyone. Whether I'm one of said adventurers, or (as it were) the dragon. I think I've still got a 15mm-scale red dragon somewhere. It'd be a shame if today's gamers were denied this pleasure :)

I just wanted to say real quick that I just bought my first McFarlane's Dragons at Wal Mart last night for the insanely low price of $7.79 each.

Why insanely? Because these things rock. On toast. Beautiful sculpts, very nice paint (for plastic pre-paints), dynamic poses and sized perfectly for 28mm gameplay. Better than any WotC or Wizkids has ever made for 1/3 the price. RUN, do not walk, and get some. Er, if you like dragons, that is.

I picked up the Komodo Clan Dragon the other night, it was the only one they had on the shelf. Now normally, I refuse to buy anything that Mcfarlane Toys puts out because, to be blunt, I think Todd Mcfarlane is a worthless human being and I don't want him to make any $ off of me. But the sculpting of the dragon and the price made me make an exception just this once.

I ordered the whole set on ebay last week. Hopefully I'll have them soon. I'm really interested in checking them out.

There was a recent thread about putting some 4x4 bases on them as well. I'll see how viable that is once I can take a look at them.

I took a look at McFarlane's dragons and, yes they look good, but they don't look anything like D&D dragons IMO. And the scale is out of whack unless your players are routinely fighting ancient wyrms...
