Gargoyle question

would having a Gargoyles on the team be a good idea see i was thinking about being one because the charecter would not need realy anything to survive you know so i thought having a team member that can hide great against stone and is able to spot enemys that are coming and cant drown would be a good thing

For the reasons you mentioned: Basic survival, Roleplaying hiding in stone, yes, a Gargoyle would be useful.

for a 4 Hit die, +5 level adjustment character, a Gargoyle would be terrible at most everything else.

This would not be a very useful character for a player to play.

A Warforged, a race from Eberron, also does not need to eat, sleep or breathe, and is a 0 level adjustment race. This would accomplish what you're appreciating in the Gargoyle, and still be useful for building a great character from with classes.

Also, the Mineral Warrior template (Scroll down), which is only a +1 level adjustment, might provide the same sort of flavor.
