Nobody ever uses them beyond a speed bump, and honestly, I'd rather play a gargoyle over an aarakocra as a pc.

Otherwise, how would you change them and how?

If it was me I would say that Gargoyles are Warforged, and decide what, if anything, to take away from them so the flight speed doesn't make them too strong. Maybe a "Winged Warforged" subspecies would cover them both?

Why Warforged? The most obvious PHB equivalent would be Dragonborn
