It's not in the spell description, but I know for a fact that I read these basic 'rules' or elaborations in some source book. Can anyone tell me where these are?
-Gasses, liquids, heat, environmental effects, etc do not pass through to the other side. (i.e. a gate to the plane of fire cant burn you by proximity even if the gate opens under a lake of lava, nor can a portal to the plane of water cause a flood. If there is no atmosphere on the opposite side, it does not create a vacuum of any kind, nor could winds on one side affect the other side. It is a window and only a window however....)
-Creatures need only touch their side of the portal, and they appear on the opposite side. (Hence, their actual size is irrelevant to the size of the gate or portal itself)
-One cannot "reach" through a portal or gate, you can never be "halfway" or only partially through, but on one side or the other.
-You cannot attack or cast spells on things on the opposite side of a gate or portal.
