Hmmm....a related idea....

About eight years ago, Spider and I (and a couple other people) wrote a massive one-shot LARP using home-brewed rules that took place in a modern mental institution. Creepy horror feel to it. No GMs-as-characters, rules so simple that we only needed to adjudicate two or three times during the evening (e.g., once when an inmate used a bedpan as a weapon, we had to reassure both parties that it counted as a lethal weapon :D), and about fifty characters, complete with detailed contacts to other characters, goals, and (in some cases) secret envelopes only to be opened when certain things happened during the storyline.

Ever since we've been talking about running it again: we had a blast, and so did a lot of the players. It might be a great thing to do Saturday night at the Con, and it could accommodate at least 50 ENWorlders, possibly more (we'd just need to write up extra characters).

Would anyone be interested in playing in The Kriegger Procedure?

Well - look-see here! A pre-made scenario - ready to go! :) I say let's have a look! :D Sounds pretty good to me! ;) We'd need to tweak it a bit for non-LARP, but....

Drop me an email Arldag!

Sounds awesome.

I vote we ditch scoring and such nonsense. Just play like mad. We should schedule a LARGE block of time, like 8 hours.

Leopolds Against the Giants drew 16 players for the first night, so that's a bit of a start.

I like the idea of everyone making their own PC, that way no one has to figure out what they can do. Someone should set the acceptable set of books out.

The LARP sounds cool Dan, tho I've never LARPed.

If you need counters, you'll have counters! :)

It sounds crazy, but if it can be done, ENWorld is the community that will pull it off.

I have no idea whether, or how, the scenario would work as a non-LARP -- and in fact, part of the reason I suggested it is that I think LARPs work real well for big groups.

Keep in mind that the scenario is very light on face-paint, black robes, or rock-paper-scissors, and combat in the system is both rare and dangerous (set in modern times with no magical healing). Most of what happens in the game is people interacting with one another trying to resolve their personal goals -- which may be as complicated as (for example) attempting to burn down the asylum with all the doctors trapped inside, or as simple as trying to hook up with that hot skanky orderly. Throw in some GM-weirdness in the middle of the scenario, and the game's good to go.

Also, I need to check with Spider: as I said, we've been talking about rerunning the scenario for years, and I need to find out if he'd be willing to do it at GenCon. But I'll definitely let you know what he says, and if he's up for it, I am :).

I'm liking that as well, Stormy.... Only prob with bringing your own chars is that you have to have them approved prior to the game and that could become a drag... It would do little but bring the table down when someone yanks out their 50th level gold dragon/necromancer/half-lich/demon-spawn kobold sorcerer monk. :p

I'd be happy to help out either as a DM and/or general volunteer. I like the war idea. Different groups could have different goals: some could lead armies, others could be engaged in espionage or counter-espionage, others could chase after the powerful artifact that could turn the tide of the war.

Ah ha! I KNEW the smell of intensive market saturation and selective advertising to a voracious target audience would bring in the D20 companies! ;)

Gotcha James - and THANKS!!!! :D
