Gen Con indy next year date.

I will go either way but feel it may be better to be later in the month. Some schools out here started school last week so eitehr time will impact them so lets keep Indy to ourselves and avoid the race.

The bigger problem is that not only will htere not be enough hotel rooms - but all of the rooms available will at least double in price. Trust me on this, here in Birmingham (about an hour from Talledega) the hotels book up completely - and those rates go way, WAY up. (2X or 2X) and they require you to book at least three nights.

So if you keep GenCon on that weekend - you lose a lot of people due to the fact that they can't get rooms, more because they can't afford rooms (NASCAR could quite possibly fill every room by itself), and those that do make it will have a LOT less cash to spend even if they do make it.

NASCAR is huge and it overwhelms everything -restuarants, hotels, .... just everything.

Having GenCon during the school year might be bad - but it pales in comparison to the disaster that could be NASCAR. (Consider that the only kids who would be affected would be local school kids - because I doubt that out-of-town youngsters are going to be able to afford NASCAR-weekend prices on lodging, anyway)

For purely selfish reasons, I'd prefer to see it moved later in August. That will get me out of Charlottesville the same weekend that all the students move back into town. Better to not be here when all the 18 year-olds driving Mom's SUV are trying to move back into their dorms. (nothing against 18year olds, really :) )

I'm in a similar situation. School starts here in West Lafayette on the 23rd. The week before class starts, we're usually buried with last minute requests from faculty. And I teach part-time, so I'm usually putting spit and polish on my course materials for the new semester.

BUT I'M GOING TO GENCON ANYWAY HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!

Gotta have your priorities, doncha' know?

And, I'd rather not deal with the brickyard crowd.

So please Mr. Atkinso, um , Adkisson, um, hey Peter, move it to later in the month! :D

I live 15 miles from Pocono Intl. Raceway. My fiancee lives 3 miles from Pocono Intl. Raceway. On the friday and saturday before a race it takes me 1.5 hours to travers those 12 miles of country roads that normally takes 10 minutes.

You want to hold gencon the same weekend as a race in the same town. Go right ahead but count me out.

Also the prices of everything within 50 miles of the track goes up on race weekends. Everything from lodging to gas, to food, everything.

It's a really bad idea, verging on moronic to even attempt it.

As far as conflicting with school some of us have children as well.

Basically, Peter is not going to please all the people, so he better try pleasing some of the people. And having it during the race and places jackin' prices isnt going to be good for anyone.

Fortunately the track is on the west side and downtown traffic is relatively unaffected.

I've only noticed lodging prices go up around here.

I would agree solely on the housing problem.

Color me stupid but how does having kids in school make a difference?
