Gen Con indy next year date.

I'm not convinced that there are many better places than Indy even with the scheduling problems. One big issue is Hotel rooms and unless a city can haddle us comfortably I don't want to go there. Millwaukee was unacceptable, there were times we were a 30-40 minute drive away. The problem with Chicago and New York are both higher costs to rent the con floor and higher hotel room rates, while other cities don't have the hotel or con floor space. I go to Origins and there is no way Columbus could handle Gen Con (for Origins it is great though). Lastly Indianapolis is about as centrally located as you can get which will draw more people who are able to drive.

For the record, NASCAR abruptly decided to change the date. According to Peter, both he and the city of Indy were blindsided by the announcement. In all reality, it looks likely that next year's convention will be the later date proposed in the poll.

I voted that I would be more likely to go with the later date for one reason. Hotel Prices.

The cheaper the hotels, the more likely I am to go. Additionally, the cheaper the hotels, the more likely I am to stay all four days.

Color me stupid but how does having kids in school make a difference?

Stupid is a color now, neat it'll be a lot easier to get good directions.

If gencon happens after my 6 year old starts school for the year then how can I attend the con and have her in school those days? Plus I live in PA so I'd be gone from wednesday to monday. If it is during the school year I can't go because of my child even though I myself may or may not be in school.

If they did know what the dates were, didn't they check for conflicts? If Indy moved certain dates (Nascar events & the like), then GenCon should have an out.

GenCon has a deal with the convention center (and surrounding hotels), not Indianapolis. What makes you think NASCAR needs to check with the convention center before they can schedule an event?

Now, someone said NASCAR moved the event, I wonder why they did. I would think those kinds of dates are fixed a year in advance as well.

Drawmack... your 6 year old goes back to school before the weekend of August 22nd? That is really early for the mid-Atlantic part of the country. As in most cases there seems to be no solution that will please everybody...

Both me and my fiancee work full time, homeschooling is not a solution for we looked into it very seriously as neither of us is very happy with the school system in this country.

Catholic school starts the last full week of august round these parts.

Sides I wasn't saying that this effects me in particular. If you look back to my original post where I mentioned having kids in school I was saying why school schedules would affect attendance and pointing out that even though most attendants are out of school they may have children in school which would afflict their ability to attend the post that you quoted was me explaining why this would afflict someone's ability to attend when someone else said they didn't understand.

Sometimes (though it's rare for anyone other than college freshmen to be in class before the last week of August). One year my last day of classes at WPI was April 29.

Thats college thou. The grammar/ high schools usally end in May or June and start end of Aug. or start of Sept. around here.
