Yeah, this is why I picked my favorite hotel and booked a room six weeks ago. It probably cost me an extra 20 bucks a night, since I didn't get the conference rate, but getting the hotel I wanted this year was oh, so worth it to me.

Interesting. I tried to do that last year and they wouldn't let me. Well, not entirely accurate; I made a reservation well in advance (around New Year's 2003) and was all set to go. Just to be sure, though, I called back the day before GenCon registration opened to confirm my reservation and the people at the hotel had no idea what I was talking about! I hopped online casually to register the next day, and there were hardly any hotel rooms available because most of the prime ones had been gobbled up. Luckily for me, I did manage to get three rooms at the Embassy Suites (guess someone canceled or something). Turned out that was better than the hotel I'd originally been shooting for.

This year, I was online the instant registration opened and I got my hotel rooms no sweat. We're all at the Embassy Suites (my favorite of the ones I've seen anyways) and we're looking forward to it.

Grabbed a room at the Omni (best dates and rates for me).

Is someone going to organize an ENworld gathering? This will be my first year - I will be lost. :)

EDIT: Possible stupid question - what are biggest differences between most of these hotels besides the difference? They seem to offer just about the same things...

The ENWorld gathering is normally Friday night after the ENnies but we seem to gather around different booths in the dealer room. :)

As far as differents in hotels, other than walking distance not too much, unlike Milwalkee which were rates, condintions, size. See the following thread on hotels, it has a couple of links.

I forgot to register yesterday!

I just went and registered this morning, and the hotels were limited for the things I wanted (suite, fridge, microwave, free internet access). I ended up booking a room at the same place I stayed last year, the Best Western Hotel & Suites City Center. It's on the other side of the convention center from most of the hotels, but still just 2 blocks away, and it has free parking. At least I don't have to worry about it anymore.

There will be some EN World games and gathering like last year I imagine. TRHe best way to meet fellow EN Worlds is hang around the EN Publishing booth, that's how I was able to meet everyone last year. Someone also had EN World badges with our screen names on them, and there were pick up game signs up there as well.

Hopefully, something similiar will happen again this year :D

If not, we'll just have to make sure that it does!

The EN Publishing booth was a great place to drop by whenever I had some free time. I met lots of people there and it was a generally cool place to just hang out and talk. Hopefully this year the booth will not be all the way in the far corner of the room (although it was a nice place to hang out, I'm sure the location didn't help Hellhound & Dextra as they were trying to sell books).

Foot traffic wasn't the best, but it was the AC unit directly above blowing cold air down on the booth that really made it tough. Brrrr! But being out of the way was nice for us because we could hang out and not worry about blocking traffic.

Aside from gathering on the floor by the booth in small clumps, The Ennies could be used as a gathering point.

Either before or after. For example, after everyone could go off to a resteraunt together or something.
