Gen Con Reports?

Oh and, even though I KNOW THE ANSWER, you keeping us in suspense about whom it is the "Year Of" has me on the edge of my seat! Well played old friend! Well played.

"The Year of..." is coming up in my next, and final, Gen Con report.

Who will recieve the mantle from Rel, last year's recipient? Who?

Stay tuned....

The FDP had a great time this year, as always. This despite the lack of our fearless leader, Jason, who is so dedicated he flew down from Toronto to partake in a 24-hour blitz of the show. Needless to say, we didn't sleep that night.

Thanks to Truthseeker and crew for rolling Klaus back to the room after *nothing happened*. He was obviously overcome with fatigue. And I have pictures to prove it.

GenCon wouldn't be the same without the annual "Teflon Billy Got Hassled at the Border" story. This year's story is my favourite, followed closely by the time you rushed to the airport only to find out you were a day early.

Always good to see Piratecat and remember the good times I had living in his basement all those years ago.

Always fun to see the ENWorlders at GenCon. We didn't get out of the booth much this year (due to the aforementioned manpower shortage), but we got to spend crazy time with my favourite publishers - XRP.

Some great things, business-wise, came to us this year. Starting in 2007, all of our products will be named "MONTE COOK PRESENTS..." plus the title. He's not involved, but we've found this helps our sales. It'll be easy to get his permission once we move into his garage.

Also, hanging out with the Dead Gentlemen crew was a blast. Christian and Scott in particular are crazy with the party.

Our White Wolf friends once again confirmed we own the ORIGINAL World of Darkness but cannot use any of their trademarks (including World of Darkness). So we own the awesome setting, though none of the games set their. Yet... believe me, they're afraid of our rumble man, Todd, and will cave soon.

Confirmed Monte is working on Fifth Edition. Those clever folks!

Had after-ENnie drinks with Nicole, Chris and the GR team. Nicole had the Mac n' Cheese soup while we talked about proper kitchen technique.

Great time, all told.

Gen Con rocks . . . again! This was my second trip. My wife and I had a blast last year, and brought our son along this year.

Lots of board games, lots of food/drink and fun. Spent a TON of cash in the dealers' room on new toys. Yay!

Went to the Canadiana suite on Wednesday and milled around. Said "Hi," drank Jack Daniels and left relatively early. My son was very dissappointed that the only other kids there were girls. I'm guessing he'll grow out of that in the next couple of years.

The highlight of the Con . . . leaving the Red Garter with one of the hottest chicks in the place on my hip . . . yeah, she's my wife, but so what. Rel, I'm sorry for taunting you on the way out . . . I just couldn't resist . . . and I'm not really sorry. :]

While we were not officially a part of the TBR crew, we did manage to squeeze around a stage with them once or twice. Our original plan was to crash the TBR gathering after the Ennies, but our True Dungeon slot ended too late.

It was cool meeting you geeks. I'm terrible with names, and I was a bit inebriated, but that probably didn't make much difference. I'm not even going to try to recall who all wasn't there.

For future reference, the "private room" ain't so private, and it's certainly not worth $120.00 for half hour per person.

I will definitely make an effort to schedule more time to meet ENWorlder's next year.

As an official spokesman for TBR, I'd like to make it clear that we wouldn't know anything about that.

If it's not one damn thing it's another :\

The last time I went to a con was Origins in '00, and I forgot how much fun four days of gaming can be.

This being my first Gen Con, and the first time since I got on the boards that I've (really) had the chance to meet people, I was somewhat apprehensive. But, I met some really cool people who I'm sure do not remember me and who I look forward to seeing again next year. :D

My biggest complaint is that the hotel I was in was 8 miles from the convention center. But, some of those cool people I met let me crash at their room at the Embassy, so it turned out to be pretty okay. My second biggest complaint is that I didn't take any pictures. Which is totally my fault, but it's awesome that other people are posting theirs, so keep it up, ya'll!

Thanks, Psion, KidCthulu, and John Crichton, for a fun game of Spycraft. Ya'll are the :):):):), individually and collectively. Thanks, FickleGM and others, for not kicking my ass for not showing up to your game. I don't know how cool you are, other than being unkicked, but I look forward to finding out next year.

Edit: Also, I had two missions at this year's con, which I completed successfully. 1) Get at least one free die. 2) Buy a set of metal dice. I also managed to spend no other money than the dice, food, and travel. It was hard, but I was tough and managed to get away fairly easily. But, man, the dice were calling my name!

Sounds like you are our kind of people.

Why crash? Remind me next year to give you my founder's exemption and come along:)

I'm Diehard Murphy, retard:)

I know. I was trying to conceal your identity. I was also trying to figure out what came first -- you using that screen name, or me giving that screen name to a character in a short story (a character who was based on you). Y'see folks, I wrote this comic book script (which was never made) that starred a Teflon Billy-esque character being threatened by actual magical forces at Gen Con. The character's screen name was Diehard Murphy.

I'm trying to figure out if I saw you using it someplace outside EN World and subconsciously gave it to the character, or if you chose that screen name based on the short story (which I did send to TB once).

To Lisa, I don't specifically recall what I said, but I know I may have pissed you off, so please accept my apology.

Feh, worst kept secret on the internet:)

Nope, it was lifted directly from your (and Jessie-Lynn's) story

I realized Gertie (Xath) is a kind, cool person, especially in the face of a half-dozen blitzed gamers.

That's right folks. The more drunk you are, the cooler I get. ;)
