GENCON 2008 - Who's Going?

After having no plans at all to attend three weeks ago, it appears that myself and two game-store group gents will be attending. I plan to buy my badge in the not-too-distant future.

That is AWESOME news!

Folks, let me offer a recommendation: If Pepster runs Savage Worlds, PLAY THAT GAME. You can thank me later. I accept personal checks, Visa and Mastercard (not Discover however).

I'm filing for the time off, certainly. Hope to be there and at the worlds's first T&T convention.
Queen_Dopplepopolis and I will be there, but I cannot promise that there will be bells on either of us. :) We're staying at the Westin, this year. :)

Refreshed just as it was coming online at noon. By the time the crap about which US State I was in within their forms was changed and visa data inputted....

It was 12:10 and all the rooms at the Hyatt? Gone. Embassy Suites? Gone.

So I'm back at the Radisson/Sheraton again - third year in a row. I HATE room reservation under this system. I REALLY do.

B'oh! I forgot that today the housing registration opened!

I had to hurriedly grab a room just now, and got one at the Sheraton. Luckily it's "only" 0.4 miles away from the Convention. That's longer than I prefer, but at least it's doable. All of the others were something like 8-11 miles away.

I hope it's not that difficult of a walk. For that matter, I'm still not 100% certain I can go (though it's looking more likely). So I hope it all works out.

Those rooms go quick! I was booking it within 7 minutes or so and my first choice was full! Luckily I was able to get my second choice a few minutes later.

The rep I talked to said they booked 13,000 rooms in the first hour!

And they say gamers aren't an online crowd. Who knows though, maybe it's just a coincidence.

Last year, the weather most of the time was in the 90s -- both temperature and humidity. (At least it seemed that way -- but the high in my hometown for the previous month had been 75 or so, so maybe it just felt like a sauna to me. :) ).

I signed up, even though I'm not entirely sure about going, financially. I did get in the Westin, though, so woo!

I have stayed there the past two GenCons - it's really not that big a deal and less than a ten minute walk. The rooms were nice, the breakfast buffet decent - Starbucks is right there in the lobby. I really can't object to the place. It really isn't that far away at all.

But I had hoped (for a change) to get to book a room at the Hyatt and be 2 minutes away. Ah well.

Last year I got a prime Suite at Embassy suites. That was due to the unexpected opening of the registration early online. Having printed off my confirmation receipt at 7:00 a.m., I went to work and left my credit card at home.

I was one UNhappy camper when they decided to wipe my registration by arbitrary fiat around noontime. By the time a buddy of mine booked the rooms in a panic late in the afternoon after I found out our reservations had been arbitrarily wiped - I was back at the Radisson/Sheraton.
