[GenCon] Convention Center maps, gaming locations

With all the flooding in Indiana, do I need to bring a life preserver to GenCon?

While the rest of Indiana's cities were built with water navigation in mind and are therefore flooded now, Indianapolis's location was selected because it was in the middle of the state. While the White River flows through the city it does not realy count as a river. What this means is that Indianapolis was built in the middle of a giant cornfield far from any real river so while the rest of the state floats away we are fine.

hey opportunity for useless trivia! Indianapolis is the largest city in the USA that is not next to a major body of water!

One of the best nightspots to visit in downtown indy is the Slippery Noodle Inn. It is just a couple of blocks east of the Convention Center, so it won't be hard to find. They are usually busy, so expect it to be on the crowded side. On the plus side... it is one of the best places in Indianapolis to go to for Live Blues.

Here is their website, it gives directions and other information:

Teflon Billy - I am with ya man! Blues at a place called the Slippery Noodle? SIGN ME UP! :D

I luv me some blues! ;)
(Too bad there ain't no funk!)

Back on the subject at hand, however, I think that an EN Mission Control would be a GREAT idea! I've got a big corkboard with push pins* that I could bring - shall I? :) Let me know, Russ!

*- I cannot be held liable for any wounds or property damage which might result with the usage of said push pins....

;)

GOSH, I AM SOOOOO PUMPED FOR GENCON!!!!!! :D

News from Indy

Ok. I just lurk, but just giving bits of info for the masses

The flooding is bad in North Central Indiana right now, but should be fine by the time of Gencon (one can hope)

The convention center is near where the Colts play, but just near....not the place. Indy is easy to walk around in the downtown area, so it will be hard to get too lost. If you need any more specific info post here and I will check for places (I work downtown and can give directions)

Lastly, Hyperfix. Indianapolis decided to tear up downtown with construction this summer. It shut down 65 going through downtown. The update as of last week (before all the storms) they were ahead of schedule. So ahead of schedule that they would finish JULY 20TH INSTEAD OF LATE AUGUST. So travelling might be easier in Indy.

I know this is a little off topic, but I thought I could help with Indy info

Snuble,

I really need to find a relatively cheap parking deck near the Con Center - any luck? THANKS A BAZILLION!

Parking

Cheap parking, well depends on the definition. Parking in downtown is hit and miss. The almost best advice is to drive around downtown and pick one. I know the convention center has parking, but longterm (all day will run a bit). There is a mall downtown (Circle Center Mall) that has plenty of parking garages. I think it ran me 12 bucks for all day when I had to work a small contract near there.

There are a few of the 5 dollar all day parking places, but they are small. If there is interest I can call and try and find some general rates per hour.
