And I did attend at least one con with free booze: SammichCon, inspiration of the critically acclaimed Fire & Brimstone!

I have the feeling that GenCon would not be able to afford free booze. This con likely can because it's small. GenCon, with it's 25K+ attendees, likely would be renting a Budwiser bottling plant to supply their con goers.

But if we're going for free stuff, I'd rather have a free meal.

No, more's the pity. The first one I got to was 2003, which was the first year in Indy. (which was great timing in one way, because Indy didn't know what it had yet in terms of how big a deal GenCon is, and thus various prices weren't jacked up)

sad to say no beer at Gary Con this year it seems.

Yes...if very sexy women showing lots of skin was serving it to me.

I don't think there would be a problem with free beer at a con. I've met a lot of gamers in my area and from what I've seen:

1. Gamers barely drink...if at all. I like to drink when I DM, but when I'm the only one having a few beers while we play, I feel like I might have a drinking problem

2. When my gamer friends do drink, they are sipping that beer as if it is the last beer on earth. One beer will last them an entire 8 hour session.

I do live in California, and guys here sure don't drink like the good old boys out south (I'm from Tennessee). So unless the gamers in my area are a fluke when it comes to drinking, I don't think Gencon has anything to worry about
