GenCon d20 Pick up games

I'd play in any of the games Mark mentioned...and depending on the timing of events, might even volunteer to run a short CoC session.

Mark does seem to know what he is talking about. When I heard pick up games I envisioned a place to go to where a few people might be hanging out playing some sort of short game. I have Munchkin and Space Munchkin right now and will probably have some other portable games with me. I could bring some sort of short D&D module for lower level characters that I could run too. I would love to have a spot that I could head to when I had some unscheduled time and hopefully find some fellow EN Worlders hanging out. I have never been to Gencon before but if there is anything I can do to help set this up, let me know!

Thanks, guys. I'll still be setting up some scheduled pick-up games, even if they don't fill up until we get there and people show up. And I'm sure there will be other folks just bringing some games with them. That'll make for a good amount of available variety and fun! :)

I've got an adventure for Oathbound (using 8th level characters) and one for Midnight (using 3rd level character). Both are long, so I figure we'll either get through as much as we can or game for a long time. I'm doing pregenerated characters so if anyonme wants to help create some I'd be happy for the assistance.

This is my first GenCon for quite a while. One of the last ones I played at was in Kenosha to give you some idea of how long...

Anyway, does anybody have an idea how much space they will let you have in the open gaming area? Are they using 8' x 3' tables?

I would love to run a Dungeon Monsters scenario. I set up a huge Dungeon. Anyone who wants to play shows up and grabs a card and plays a set of monsters in the dungeon. Reverse Dungeon, but cooler.

Only problem is - it takes a fair amount of space.

I look forward to meeting a number of you ENWorlders.

I wrote to the folks at GenCon asking if there was an organized space for pick up games and if so where it was. Here is the mail that I wrote:

Hello. My name is Rob McCarthy and I will be attending my first GenCon this summer in Indy! I am also a member of an online community known as ENworld. There are several of us attending the convention this summer and most of us have never met face to face. We would like to run some pick up games and what my question is is this. Will there be a spot set up for pick up games? If so, where is it? If not do you know of a good spot that we could use to meet up and play pick up games? Any help would be apprecitated, and if I have written to the wrong person if you could kindly point me in the right direction. Thanks for your help and I am looking forward to an awesome time in July!

And, here is there reply:

Event registration has been closed since May 10th..
There will be open gaming rooms that will be available for you to use at your convenience. This information will be in the program book that will be available onsite.

So, is this what we are looking for? Being that it is my first Gen Con I am not sure how crowded these rooms are or how easily they can be found.

Hi, All!

I and one of my gaming group will be attending GenCon this year. (My wife unfortunately had to cancel out recently.)

We will be arriving late Tuesday , and will be using Wednesday morning to look around a bit, get our Indy bearings, and relax.

My question is this: Is anyone reading this thread planning to play any games off-site (in their hotel, in a common meeting area, etc.) on the Wednesday before the con? I would love to get the chance to get in some gaming that wednesday.

Failing that, does anyone have any meeting plans pre-con? Failing the gaming idea, it would be a blast just to meet some folks I correspond with regularly.

And we will more than likely be checking in on the pickup games. There isn't an ounce of D&D gaming to be had in the events as of early this month!

Hi Henry.

Three of us Fiery folk will be there as of Wednesday morning (James, Todd, and me). I can't speak for the other two, but I know the rest of the weekend is liable to be taken up with "work," so *I* might be for a little gaming at some point on Wednesday.

I'll point this thread out to J and T and see what their thoughts on the matter are...
