[GenCon] Got your badge yet?

Yesterday I received my badge in the mail :), but no event tickets :(.

The letter that came with the badge states:
"If you ordered event tickets they will be waiting for you at Will Call onsite in Indianapolis. We apologize for this inconvienience but with the implementation of the new regestration system, the configuration of the ticket printing was not complete in time to ship."

I am glad that the badge arrived, but the whole point of of regestering online and having it shipped to me was so I wouldn't have to stand in line Wednesday night after a 9 hour drive. I REALLY hope they have the sense to have a seperate set of windows for people who are just picking up tickets and already have their badges.

Got Mine :D
Was hoping there was some kinda of confirmation of the hotel stuff in there also but there wasnt.

So jumped over to the website and it says they are not giving the hotels the info until 1 week prior (even though registration is closed)

What is up with that.? I just want to make sure that I am not lost in the shuffle anywhere. :(

That's what "will call" means, I believe. Of course, if everyone who pregreg-ed has to use just one window, that won't be pretty. Hopefully they'll have a lot of people on hand at the will call window(s?). :)

I've done the will-call thing at Gencon before, generally it's walk up, no line, grab your stuff, and keep moving. I don't think I've ever had to wait in line for will call badges or tickets.

I have mine. Anyone else read the back? I'm fairly certain by accepting the badge I have authorized them to clone me.

the holder consents to being recorded (by audio and/or visual means) for exhibition and exploitation by any means in all media, including without limitation the Internet, worldwide in perpetuity.

So they get a recording of me in a medium of their chosing for exploitation all over the world forever, and I have to wait in line for my event tickets? geez

:D

Thaumaturge.

Consider yourself lucky after last year's fiasco. After some people waited 2-3 hours Wednesday night, they still couldn't get their stuff and had to come back the next morning.

And some people (like me) who showed up at 6:30 on Thursday morning (1/2 an hour before the doors opened), didn't get their stuff until almost 9 a.m. Don't worry about that slot which already started--just stand in *another*line to get a refund for that ticket. Even worse, my stuff was held up because *one* ticket (for two days later!) didn't print. With a better system in place, I could have returned later for my errant ticket. But, because of the "all or nothing" set-up for ticket pick-up, I missed a gaming slot waiting almost 2 hours for a ticket I didn't need for two days.

In spite of my frustration, I almost felt bad for the staff--mostly volunteers, sometimes being treated rudely by angry patrons. I remember one network-fixer-dude bleeding all over the carpet (cut his arm on some piece of metal), until someone got him a band-aid. Just a tad surreal, which was a nice way to start of GenCon.

For several weeks after GenCon, the staff was working very hard to get feedback and improve the system so this year's GenCon goes more smoothly in the "will call" area. Here's hoping that prep work pays off in Indy!

I knew that event tickets weren't being mailed this year, but I'm hoping all goes well enought that the group running GenCon feels comfortable enough to mail event tickets next year. Would certainly shorten the lines.

I really hope this is how it goes this year -- it's the first time I've ever actually gotten to prereg for events. :D
