[GenCon] Hotels in Indy

buzz

I was perusing the sites of some of the hotels mentioned on the GenCon Indy housing page, and figured I'd ask: anyone have any reccomendations? My wife (non-gamer) is likely coming along --and barring James Marsters being at the con again-- she's probably going to be spending more time at the hotel than I will, so I'm mainly looking for the swankiest one with the nicest amenities.

Also, how does the whole hotel-reservation-code-thingy work?

TIA!

Can't say what the other hotels were like but I was at the Adam's Mark last year, stayed in a suite, cost was about $120 a person, very nice room, two queen sized beds, a sperate living area, two TV, couch (that folded out to bed), desk, plenty of fluffy towels, bar/dinner in lobby, about four blocks from the CON, lot of places around to visit.

Embassy Suites downtown, very nice, have a "living room" and "bedroom" for privacy. Good for after hours gaming. ;)

Plus...free booze from 5pm to 7pm!!

My favorite place to stay in Indy is Embassy Suites. It's right across from the convention center, but if your wife isn't interested, no problem, as it's attached to a mall too! It's also within walking distance from at least one museum, a park and an IMAX theatre too, if I'm not mistaken.

Plus you get free breakfast, and it's not some crappy little roll and instant coffee--we're talking a really nice, all you can eat full breakfast.

Oh, yeah, and the happy hour is free too.

Like hand of Evil I stayed at the Adams mark with my friends, and we were all quite happy with the room. I also had the pleasure of sharing breakfast with Teflon Billy and Morrus at the Embassy Suites, and found the rooms to be a little smaller -- but the included morning buffet more than balanced things out.

Either would be an excellent choice.

Something I learned over the years, closer is better. Just being able to quickly drop items off at the room or take a quick nap is a major plus. The greatest differance between Indy and Milwaukee is that there was more places to go outside of the CON, Milwaukee (around the con) died at 7 PM, except for a few places! Last year took in Matrix: Revolution on the IMAX, walked down the river, ate and drank at a number of different places, got to see some sights. This year I hope to make it to the Indian Museum and to see if there is a local ball game taking place (I loved their field).

I stayed at the Best Western City Center Hotel & Suites, and thought it was a great place. It's a 5 minute walk to the convention center, and had the cheapest rates of any of the hotels we looked at (I think our suite was under $100/night). It's located on the opposite side of the convention center from the majority of the hotels (Adams Mark, Embassy Suites, etc.) but that also made it very quiet if you want to go crash for a nap or chill for a few hours out of the convention rush. Good size rooms, decent breakfast, pool, exercise room, free parking, and free high speed internet access.

Well if my campaign for ENnies Judge falls short again, I will have to check this place out. Thanks for the info CL!

I recommend the Comfort inn on 530 S. Capitol. It's $150 a night for a suite with kitchenette, 2 beds and a pull out sofa. FREE parking, cont. breakfast and its right across the street.

I already have my reservation, hehe!! :D
