GenCON News?

Who's to say PCs don't get damned still, and removed from play if they become Darklords?

Hey Claudio! (Claudio is one of my ultimate favorite RPG artists ever! I remember him from my Kargatane days long, long ago and it was always cool to see him break out into the industry and have such a successful career!)

Well, obviously we can't say until the box actually comes out, but, I would think the whole corruption system, which has basically always worked as a Save or Die (or lose your PC, which is essentially the same thing), would be against current 4e design philosophy. It could work, however, if they build in a redemption system. That would be great roleplaying. As could supernatural monster PCs, especially if you were playing against type and decided to play the "good vampire" trying to redeem him or herself.

I think the best approach to this for WotC would be to emphasize the Dark Fantasy/Horror toolkit first, the homage to the Ravenloft campaign setting second.

Ah, the Kargatane. I remember them well ("Klaus" was my first screenname, specifically for the Kargatane site). :)

Nah, it was never Save or Lose PC. There were definite steps towards corruption, from the minor physical deformities all the way down to full monsterhood. If 4e can have "3 saves and die" in the form of death saves, it can certainly have steps towards losing a PC.

Speaking of Ravenloft (which I cannot wait for it to be released!) Any news about White Wolf's WoD setting, or are they saving everything for their Masquerade event at the end of September?

Don't know if this was mentioned already.

From Sean K(ing) reynolds--Ultimate Magic (working title) for PF supplements.

From Erik (The Prince) Mona--Ultimate Combat (working title) 'same effect'

Description--Both themes will cover different new feats, magic, and items across the PF world from different cultures.

Subject to change.

(This was a direct conversation from both)

Ultimate Combat?!?!? - Sweet baby Jesus, YES!!!! My prayers are answered!!

More details at the Masquerade, and some previous pdf products in printed forms. I don't remember all of the details from the one seminar I attended, but to the question of "what can you tell us about the MMO" they responded, "we're working on it" and that they couldn't tell much detail at the stage that it's in.

WoD MMO. I cry for my limited amount of time. I have thus far avoided WoW, but a WoD MMO would snag me.

I can't believe how quiet this Gencon has been as far as game news goes. Nothing seems to really be standing out as far as big news from the convention. Has anyone heard of any new games at least?

Er, wouldn't the Horror rules use the Disease track 4e uses?

I'm almost positive I rememberind reading this in DRAGON already...)

EDIT: Interesting to see a resurgence of boxed sets from WOTC. I imagine this was due to DDI in a way.

If you have a subscription, it is really hard to justify to oneself buying a book version of the same information yet a boxed set has components that presumably can't be duplicated via DDI

Considering that business at the Con and gaming in general was down for the last 2 years. Methinks this current journey at GC, was just a recovery point for eveyone.B-)

Next year...will be probably carrying the bigger news, if things keep on improving. If not...the 'quiet' will remain until someone really wants to break the silence.
