GenCon Noob question re: RPGA

What if I have the money to be Raised? Do I still have that penalty?

The penalty is in the Core Rules so yes. That is what is appealing to a lot of people about RPGA games. We are the core rules you buy right off the shelf and we use almost all published books (with current errata). So it gives a level of expectation on the players part as to what to expect. If they make a Swordmage they know that whether they play a game here, Gencon, Toronto, or on a boat anchored off Japan they will be using the same rules. We have a few minor rules on character creation (no rolling dice) and how to track your characters advancement (which helps us try to keep a balance between 20,000 characters scattered to the far corners of the planet).

So there's really no point in saving up money to get Raised . . . since it's going to happen for free at the end of every adventure anyway. Or am I reading that incorrectly?
