Went to GenCon yesterday, and had a blast!
The lines were not at all long. It took me only as long as it takes to fill out the registration card to get to the front of the line - less than 5 minutes (and this was prime-time, right at the beginnin, on Saturday).
The turnout wasn't as amazing as I would like - My guess is that there were about 4000 visitors there at the time total. That's about double the attendance for other local cons, but pales in comparison to GenCon East.
However, the dealers room was great, and had most of the same booths that you find at GenCon East (I will post some pictures later). I watched the StarGate game being demo'ed by AEG, played a couple of board games, bought a ton of dice from Chessex and some new products (like Stargate Season One), and chatting with many game companies (and handed out many business cards).
I heard William Shatner didn't have great attendance for his "lecture", though people were interested in, of all things, the battlestar galactica "lectures".
The art room was fantastic. Some really talented folks had their stuff on display. Too bad I didn't make it to the auction.
All in all, it was a really fun time, and I think it will only get better next year as buzz starts to generate and they increase its advertising (which was fairly small this year).
