GenCon2005

Good advice.

Also, many of the vendors accept only cash, so your credit card will not be all that useful (except for the hotel and meals, of course).

Food at the convention center is really expensive, and pretty lousy. However, there's a Subway in the basement of the Hyatt, which is a short skybridge walk away.

I'd suggest that you not overbook yourself. My first year I missed out on some games with EN World people because I had signed up for too many events. Last year I signed up for fewer, but two of them the presenter never showed. This year I'm not going to bother. I'll be able to keep myself busy with pickup games, I'm sure.

Second this.

See Buttercup's sig - Volunteer for the EN.World booth, if not just stop by and meet the people there.

Man of the vendors do take plastic, I used it regularly. You'd be a fool to turn away any kind of money. I used palstic more than $$$ last year. I saved cash for the OOP gaming books dealers ;)

Now if you're really hardcore.... Its probably too late for this year, but next year you can check with your favorite gaming company and see if they have demo teams at Gen Con.

Run between 12-24 hours worth of events, and you can get free admission (almost always with 16 hours or more of events), free hotel space (usually shared with other gamers, can be scary), and free swag from the company. All of this depends on the company you demo for.

I like running events more than I like playing in them, so its a no-brainer for me.

I will not be there this year. :(

First time through the dealer room, do not take any money, just look! ;)

Unless it's something you really, really want. Some things sell out on Thursdays. :)

As always, I say: bring enough money to indulge. Plan ahead and save up. $400 should be plenty for purchases in the dealer room, though. :)

Hang out with ENWorlders - look for the infamous badges and wear yours proudly.

Bring a nice backpack with the squishy shoulder padding. Do not bring too many books.

Activities - Do True Dungeon. Look through the games and see if any interest you - if they do, sign up for a couple, but not too many (too booked = bad). Check out the seminars - go ahead and sign up for ones that interest you, you can always skip them later and they rarely (if ever) take your tickets.

I'm also really fond of the speed painting contest. :)

I am sure Buttercup will have details soon.

Last year we really didn't get people to sign up till like July so it might not be too soon, but hopefully won't be as last minute as that seemed.
